similar topics pop up from time to time, but thought i'd make a more current one since the scene changes all the time and new techniques for finding shit come about.
typically i'd use piratebay to find torrents for music, but a lot of what i listen to is too obscure *sips PBR* for the place and i can't find what i'm looking for.
i've messed around with what.cd but they're kind of like elitists over there and i ended up getting tangled up in all the tracking/ratio business and got the boot.
so what's your favorite method?
(and don't say itunes, i easily spend a grand a year on live music and rationalize pirating tunes in this way)

I haven't downloaded music in at least a year, maybe two, but I'm curious to hear what the new LimeWire or Bear Share is.

Do a google image search for the artist and the album name and you almost always find a blog that has it with a rapidshare download.
- And if you like it, support the artist.kaptenfest

It's getting harder and harder to find older stuff these days, it's usually just the new releases, but anyway I google the artist, title followed by the word rapidshare or mediafire etc.
If desperate ill do a search for artist title followed by index of. Rarely works but managed it a few times in the past.
- using "blogspot" instead of "rapidshare" (etc) works too.fresnobob

searching google with
filetype:zip daft punk
seems to bring up a few things of interest. you could replace the "zip" with "mp3" for individual files

funkysouls.com has a big community of people posting links in pretty much every genre of music. Google "site:funkysouls.com [artist name]" and you will probably find a thread with their stuff posted. But those are all file sharing site links so a lot of the old links are dead.
For torrents, I found that rutracker.org has a huge amount of stuff. You will find a lot of discography pages like these that have pretty much every release by an artist:
http://rutracker.org/forum/viewt…
http://rutracker.org/forum/viewt…Also full label pages:

Of course, to use either of these sites you need to translate Russian but it's not really that hard. Anyway, I was never here...*vanishes in puff of smoke

These days more and more artists are going w the free download approach. I stick w soundcloud/ mixcloud combo, follow the artists/ labels you like. If it's electronic and its recent there's a big chance that its there, even pirated from accounts no one follows.

I can't remember the last time I downloaded music... I guess my wife bought a few albums on iTunes recently, but I haven't for quite some time.
My methods of downloading usually consist of
a: friend's private share who has a huge collection
b:swapping iPods/harddrives and ripping
c: the "lease" approach (using Spotify or another streaming service).
d: underground bands usually have free downloads, or small labels will provide
e: google search something like
intitle:"index.of" (mp3|m3a) BandNameHere -html -php -aps -cf -jsp
