it's 2013 already, we can talk to phones, we have electric cars, we can fly across country in a matter of hours, play realistic looking video games with people around the world, etc.
Why is there still people that record video in vertical format?

phones really shouldn't let you record vertical

How about that? A World Star video where someone IS NOT saying "world star" every 5 seconds!

Vimeo keeps the vertical format. it's actually cool when done on purpose.

Miguex did you have as much of a hard time when we switched from 4:3 to 16:9 aspect ratio for TV? Like whoa, I don't need that extra side space.
Or how about this to melt your brain... why aren't screens round (and photographs as well) lenses are circular and capture in that manner?
- because human vision is horizontal. also, pixel matrices are necessarily rectangular.detritus

I really don't mind vertical video. Makes sense when I'm watching on my phone or tablet. Maybe youtube should get with the times already and optimize for alternate aspect ratios.
The only thing that sucks is when someone switches orientation part way through the video and you have to watch most of the video sideways.

- you mean, youtube, vimeo, dailymotion, standard television sets, movie theaters, projection screens,
Miguex - makes sense when watching on your phone or tablet? just turn your device and watch the video in proper landscape.iCanHazQBN

I think phones should keep recording in horizontal mode even when holding it vertically. your camera crops so much information with it records vertically
