They'll reboot the series in twenty years anyway.

I liked it for the most part.

    • I think Disney will release a SW film every year for the next 20 years anyway,fadein11
    • They got such a good deal on Lucasfilm.fadein11
    • they robbed lucas. that who deal must have actually been worth more like north of 10 bil.CygnusZero4
    • *that wholeCygnusZero4
    • yep totally. But he still gets loads of merch sales so he don't care.fadein11
    • they will make their entire investment back on this one movie between ticket sales and merch.CygnusZero4
    • I don't think Disney was willing to invest more (despite the actual worth) and it sounds like Lucas needed the SW weight off his shoulders, so win-win ?spl33nidoru
  • CygnusZero4-2

Is there even really a value that you can put on what Disney purchased? Its incredible that they got this for just 4 bil. They are going to make a stupid amount of billions off of SW alone. I mean you could say they may make... idk 20 billion off of these 5 currently planned movies alone? Between ticket sales and everything else? Maybe more than that, who knows.

And then if they think about doing something with Indiana Jones... more billions! I dont even understand how they got all this for 4 billion.

    • heh saw this on wikipedia "In 2012, the total value of the Star Wars franchise was estimated at USD $30.7 billion"CygnusZero4
    • he's a billionaire anyway and constantly talks about how unimportant money is once you have enough...fadein11
    • "free for those who can afford it, very expensive for those who can't"garbage
    • He gave most of it to charity, didn't he? So had he got more, more charities could have benefited.ETM
    • im not saying he should have demanded more. im sure he was fine with the 4 bil. just making the point he did get robbed though. lolCygnusZero4

Man Beaten to Death For Shouting Spoiler After Star Wars Movie Premier

    http://www.hufingtonpost.co/news…

"Augie Henning, 35 and self proclaimed Sith Lord, was arrested earlier this evening after a Massachussets premier of Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Minutes after the premier had ended, Jonathon Hammel exited the theater while shouting spoilers from the new movie, including the highly-rumored one of Han Solo's death. Amongst the line of people waiting to see the second screening of the night, Augie Henning was said to have shouted back at Jonathon, commenting, from what we have gathered, with phrases such as, "You've ruined my life!" and "You don't know what you've done!". Augie then, stepped out of line and proceeded to beat Jonathon profusely until he was unable to move."

    • oh ffs, now I know that spoiler as well.

Why did I come into this thread??

To echo fade's sentiment a little about it not being long enough, feeling rushed and characters not being as fleshed out as they could, I hear what he's saying but I also think we've been spoiled in that regard because of all the top quality TV series.

If you compare star wars to game of thrones for example, i think the star wars universe is vastly larger, way more characters and way more stories to tell but they have to condense it into 7 2 hour movies, whereas GOT has 5 seasons x 10 1hour episodes, so they have the luxury of better story telling and development.

I do wish SW would get a similar treatment but it is what it is and i think it's great.

  • ernexbcn7

Loved it! it's pure star wars and by that I mean IV V VI not the green screen midi-chlorians abominations.

    Can't wait for the next.

    • like that description, pure star wars!_niko
    • i liked the prequels. not great movies in general, but lots of cool sci fi shit in them.CygnusZero4
    • Eye candy is not worth the dialogue and delivery that makes ones ears bleed, IMO.ETM
    • The script and acting sucked, but i still liked the star wars shit in it. LolCygnusZero4
  • ok_not_ok2

  • caterpus1

Loved it. Hated the prequels but, as a fan, had to choke 'em down. They used actual puppets and costumes sometimes! To quote ernexbcn, it really is "pure star wars."

  • inteliboy0

Just saw it. Glad to see people here liking it. Was it perfect, no. Was it fun - fuck yeah.

    ///** SPOILER **//

    Good things:

All the key characters are great. The acting is great. Nothing is cringey at all. Luke. Holy shit. Powerful.

How the story was told was really well done and unexpected despite the mirror duality of A New Hope --- opening with Poe, then the camera moving over to a Storm Trooper.... I was like "wow this is cool". Even that moment with Rey, Kylo and Fin in the snow - perfect.

    Bad things:

Snoke. Ugh, so generic, so CGI, so crap.

That CGI tentacle monster in the corridor scene.

The editing. JJ fucking REFUSES to let a scene play out and get emotional in this film (and all his films). Every time it's about to get deep and epic some stupid explosion or noise or something interrupts the scene and boom... we're back into the fast bang bang bang pace of the movie. Ended up making everyones motivations feeling empty as we never got to dive into their emotions.

The music. Dull. Non memorable and just a wash of notes and orchestra with no emotion. This is Star Wars ffs! With a better score, like a bandaid, the above problems could have disappeared.

    • yeah Snoke felt a bit like Lord of Rings troll level of animation.. why bother..autoflavour
  • spl33nidoru0

Agree with you on not capitalising as much as they could on the music, and snoke seeming a bit off in this universe.

This being said, I saw it again today, enjoyed it much more without fear of disappointment and the things that bugged me at first didn't bug me that much anymore.

With additional viewings it's also easier to put oneself in the director and team's shoes, and considering the pressure what they delivered is nothing short of amazing, and like we all said before very truthful to the original ones, if to a fault sometimes.
I'd even go as far as to say that Lucas gets extra points for daring to go in a completely different direction with his prequels. Made me want to watch them again.

I still found the first 45 minutes perfect in every way and beautiful moviemaking. And I believe this new episode (rather than the original trilogy) will be the standard the next 2 chapters will be judged by.

    • Nothing is off in the sw universe lmao. Ever see jedi? Theres talking teddy bears in it.CygnusZero4
    • lucas has said he wasnt trying to recreate the originals with the prequels.CygnusZero4
    • I wont fault someone for taking a risk. Thats what he did with the original star wars.CygnusZero4
    • Have you finally seen it or what ?!spl33nidoru
    • In like 2 hours dudeCygnusZero4
    • Cool, have fun and report back!spl33nidoru

Took my 4 yr old son to see it, also his first theater movie. Great time. I have my gripes about the movie, but the dogfight scenes are excellent. I plan on watching in regular 2d rather than imax 3D. Those recycled glasses are a crapshoot.

Biggest movie complaint: need more titties

    • jesus.. you took a 4 year old to that? i just watched it tonight.. there is no way i would take a small child.. not even my 5 year old and he loves star wars.autoflavour
    • you are aware its PG 13..autoflavour
    • So what auto? Maybe your son would enjoy the movie as well.bezoar
    • Hmm
      ********
    • Lemme rephrase that, it's early: perhaps a kid can enjoy the movie without negative effects.bezoar

Congratulations, You’ve Been Cast In Star Wars! Will You Ever Work Again?

  • prophetone3

Omg. Bravo JJ. Bravo you beautiful son of a bitch. That is all.

  • autoflavour0

yep.. i have to admit.. JJ delivered..
I usually cant stand his drivel .. but he done did good..

  • autoflavour0

definitely felt some of music was a bit paint by numbers.. felt a little too much like standard orchestral fare you find on any xmen/transformers/action film..

it was the classic themes interspersed with mediocrity..

its the only place i could fault it..

that and Kylo Rens voice is ridiculous .. it just sticks out like a dogs balls.. what, was the mixing engineer sick the day they did his part..

    • all the flaws are fine really... very rare for a film to be perfect. BUT the music actually did bother me. Star Wars is supposed to be all about the music!inteliboy
  • CygnusZero4-5

    WOW. Major Spoilers here.

I have a LOT of problems with this movie. I mean a LOT. I felt Lucas' touch missing from start to finish. It felt way more like Star Trek than Star Wars to me. Felt no presence of the sith or jedi outside of things shoehorned into it.

Snoke is not even close to being as cool as Sidious. They shouldnt have gone with CGI for him. I felt like I was watching Harry Potter every time he was on. Shit, Darth Maul puts him and Kylo Ren to shame.

As soon as Kylo took his helmet off with that gloriously styled hair and perfectly shaven face I did the biggest fucking eyeroll youve ever seen. Totally ridiculous and pulled me out of the character instantly. What the fuck happened to mysterious villains?? I mean does JJ even know why Vader was cool? He was just a masked badass until the very end of the trilogy. Ugh.

I need to see it again, the movie wasnt AWFUL, I liked some aspects of it, but it was very, very rushed, missing a lot of what I liked about Lucas' movies, music was meh. Say what you want about the prequels, the music was absolutely beautiful. Nothing even close to that in this. Story was kinda meh, starkiller base was almost like an afterthought. What was the real threat in this movie? Them blowing up some random planets for no reason at all? Ok I guess.

Others are obviously loving it here which is fine, but that did not feel like a Star Wars movie to me. There was remnants of the last 2 Star Trek movies everywhere. There was SW shit in it, but the feeling of a SW movie wasnt there for me. I really felt the absense of Lucas from start to finish. I wish he had some involvement.

    • Ditto.BabySnakes
    • Ren's moment with the blaster was pretty dope thoughjaylarson
    • +1 for removing the maskjaylarson
    • +1 for more lucas involvement. there seemed to be a certain lack of detail. otherwise, i was very entertained.jaylarson
    • this was my sentiments exactly... v. disappointed by it in a lot of ways. The pirate gangs were bordering on ludicrously bad.fadein11
    • The helmet on and off was likely a reflection of the duality inside him. Conflicted dark and light.ETM
    • The "random planets" included the capital of the New Republic, destroying the seat of government and resistance support as well as creating a power vacuum.ETM
    • I would take this movie over the prequels every day of the week. TFA had proper acting and mostly reasonable dialogue.ETM
  • CygnusZero4-3

Oh, and Kylo being Han Solos son. I mean could that have felt anymore forced into the movie? He didnt need to be anyones son! He just needed to be a badass henchman for the first order, exactly what Vader was. He was just some guy, he didnt need to have all this other story shit attached to him. This story was way overcooked and stuff into a 2 hour long movie. This needed a lot more time in the over and planning to clean this up.

    • Man I knew you wouldn't like this movie.inteliboy
    • lol you were building it up so much and then hated ityuekit
    • Meh it happens. Imdojt understand why its getting such great reviews. It was just ok. 6/10 at best.CygnusZero4
    • lolololjtb26
    • Vader didn't need to be anyone... oh except the protagonist's father. Are you actually thinking about what you write?ETM
    • It didn't feel that forced, and is a hallmark back to the expanded universe events. Also, we don't yet know how it may further play out in the trilogy.ETM
