putting together something to get an education to these poor people is GREAT gesture, but I dont think this was really thought out by people who are in touch with 3rd world countries, or even 2nd world countries like I live in. send iPads to 2nd world countries like Mexico

either you buy a computer for Ethiopia or you don't. Either you donate to a charity or you don't.
Fuck the qbn naysayers looking for the absolute worst in everything but never giving anything back.

I remember reading something in the Economist years back, something which has proven true in China and every other country that didn't industrialise (or whatever) early...
...they can leap frog us by learning from our costly mistakes, and then capitalising on all the gains in decentralised tech that the world's been massively developing this last generation.
For instance - witness the rise in Mobile phone ownership in Africa, which (if memory serves) is upto something like 1/4 of the population .. including all those 'ever-so poor bastards in fucksville, nowhere'. Mobile masts, solar energy and cheap Chinese turbines are very quickly transforming Africa.
I think a lot of us in here (well, speaking for myself, anyway) still have our heads wrapped in overly-enthused early 80s depictions of the continent in total hapless disarray.
Digitally-delivered free education and decentralised infrastructures has hufe potential over there. All quite exciting really.
- turbines = generators, sorry.detritus
- China doesn't seem to be learning much from our mistakes, unfortunately. Terrible roads and infrastructure in a growing metropolismonospaced
- in a growing metropolis are all pointing to a disaster we don't even have here (western world).monospaced

- I was just saying much the same on another forum, mono - china has become a terrible disappointment in that regard over these last 5 years ro so..detritus

You are spot on, detritus! Exactly. Another article about the proliferation of mobile, how they're "hacking" it to their needs, etc. http://influencers.biz/2012/01/0…
- nice read, maybe they should take away Nigerians internet access and give it to Ethiopiamoldero

If only Ethiopia had a vast oil reserve, a diamond mine and ormineral deposits... The U.S., China, Russia and the EU would be BBF with these low-life peeps.
Fuck it, let 'em die, who cares!

how about the US just leave them + their oil alone, then their problems would most likely dissolve. fuck the laptop.
- Because Africans have historically been so good to their people.albums
