Stop using Instagram as your fucking gallery. People get so upset about something thats free. You want to get your work out there, Start a website, gather followers, stay current. Christ.

It means grumpy cat can't make money with his instagram account. See photos online are a big commodity, all those viral pics out there can generate ad revenue, same with current events and just plain interesting photos, this gives Instagram the ability to keep control of it without giving anything up to the content creators. i think companies like natgeo and stuff would have to make arrangements with instagram themselves.

uuuuuuu. True but Grumpy cat can make their own site and put out all that info on their own site.

Pretty shitty IMO but a sign of things to come in the Terms of Service pages that nobody reads. Just hit accept!

It means they can use your photos AND its metadata (location, etc) to either throw ads at you or even use that information to sell it to 3rd parties. Also to use your photos commercially as they see fit.
That's how I understood it.

“We'll have more to share very soon” = our legal department is scrambling to help us leverage this situation.

Everyone knew this was coming when Facebook bought them. Why else would they invest one billion.

I'm still going to run in circles scream and shout.

yeah I like instagram, it's fun. But I'm not comfortable with them using images of my friends in ads. Even if the possibility is marginal, that's an extreme breach of privacy. Will be deleting my account, sadly.
- Breach of piracy of photos you posted publicly on their site? Fuck off.monospaced
- formed0
It is a breach of privacy. I'd call it entrapment, honestly. They have such a user base to just change policies now is almost criminal.
All this crap about it is "free" so you have to sign away your life is ridiculous.
Basically, they can put Getty out of business by taking all the billion vacation shots, pro photogs portfolios, etc., and selling them. That is what we are talking about here - the almost limitless control and profiting off the user's photos.
Think of all the professional photographers that have their work on there. What's to stop them from creating a stock photo "store" - just browse through anyone's pics, click "buy now" and bingo, you got professional photos and all the money goes to Facebook.
Thankfully, I haven't uploaded pics there. Now I know I never will.
