What was wrong with the last one? Because they decided to make it more accessible to the masses?
- the lense flare thing needs to gospl33nidoru
- Even J.J. agreed they over did it, in retrospect.ETM

Yes, that's the reason it sucked, because they made it "accessible". It had nothing to do with the utterly nonsensical plot, which saw the antagonist travelling back in time not to save his planet from destruction by giving them two decades to evacuate, but to seek revenge on people who had nothing to do with the destruction, in the process going on an off-screen adventure to turn his dinky mining ship into an unholy planet annihilator which he turns against the two most important planets in the Federation (that are completely undefended, save for a handful of cadets, because every fucking space ship they own has been sent off to some nebula somewhere) and can only be stopped by three people separately marooned on the same planet within walking distance of each other, while fucking lens flares obscure everything on screen.
- How annoying would it be to hang out with this guy? Bet he nitpicks everything. It was a fun movie. Good enough for me.CygnusZero4
- I have several friends this bad.CyBrainX

who goes to the theater and gets so hung up on a lens flare they can't enjoy the film?
that's like hating star wars because the ships make sound in space when they shouldn't
- Ships dont make sound in space? So theres no sound at all in space?CygnusZero4
- there's no air for the sound waves to travel throughmonospaced
- Theres no air in space?CygnusZero4
- Google has mail?monospaced
- there IS air in space because earth is in space therefor there are cats in space toomoldero
- What about fire? Fire needs air. No fire in space?CygnusZero4
- Like if the space shuttle blew up in space it would just be parts flying around, no explosion?CygnusZero4
- it would burn any air available, that's it, therefore no spooge in spacemonospaced
- I thought everyone knew there was no sound/fire/explosion... in outer space.ETM
- wat bout da space tween you ears?utopian

Spielberg has been using that lens flare thing for decades. I like it.
- Speilberg: one flare every 15 mins.
Abrams: 15 flares every minute.i_monk

lens flare's and plot holes (what movie doen't have those) aside, the last one was a wild ride, they captured the spirit of Kirk and the original crew perfectly.

For i_monk:
Some plot hole info (from a Star Trek board, so it must be true)
Nero makes it to the Hobus star and wants revenge on Spock and the Federation for not saving Romulus. Nero is sucked in a singularity. Nero comes out to see a Federation ship and attacks it. Once he almost destroys the ship he learns he went back in time. Once he learns of this he already changed the time line forever.Kirk Sr. cripples the Narada ship. The Klingons capture the Narada and the crew is imprisoned for 25 years. When they make their escape they destroy 47 Klingon ships this is stated on screen. At this point he must capture prime Spock and get the Red Matter. He cannot save Romulus or get revenge without this important step.
After he gets the Red Matter he wishes to destroy Federation planets for revenge. This will allow him to return to Romulus as a hero and also save it from the Hobus star. This was the plan.
- Killing Chris Pine doesn't save Romulus 40 years later, and if he knows he can't ever get back or whatever, the revenge is pointless.i_monk
- pointless.i_monk
- Er, not Chris Pine, the dude who played his father on that first ship.i_monk
- Revenge is always pointless. It never fixes the problem. It's an emotional response.ETM
- Star Trek arguments = pointlessAl_dizzle
- His goal was to destroy every federation planet he can for revenge. Even if he can't get back he can save romulus by stopping Spock.CyBrainX
