Not everyone in Israel supports the illegal occupation, illegal settlements, constant brutalisation and killing of innocent civilians so commenting this reality does not make someone hate Israel.

    • of course not, but it does seem hateful if the realities are described one-sided, unbalancedimagineallthepeople
    • i mentioned a specific incident. Hamas firing rockets needs to stop now.lowimpakt
    • The Zionist movement is one-sided and unbalanced. Therefore they must be hate.omg

    FOR PINKFLOYD:

"the U.S. involved because they have interest in having a location in the Middle East (Palestine), just like they have bases in S. Korea because they want a base in the middle of Asia?"

    WRONG.

The U.S. is involved because it can't afford to have major turmoil in the area. It's not good for the global economy, it spooks investors everywhere and this place is a constant tinderbox since the 70s, all administrations before and in the future will work towards peace in that region. The U.S. does not want a base in Palestine. It has dozens maybe hundreds already in the middle east. If it wanted another it would certainly not be in Palestine.

Which brings me to question #2

"Is this why the Middle East hates us because the U.S. is involved with the Palestenian and Israel conflict because the Palestinians are arabs and most of the middle east is arabs?"

    Not really.

The "Middle East" that you refer to hates us for many reasons depending where you are, here are some.

We are a Christian, we are not Muslims, we are infidels, we are westerners, we side with Israel, we have dozens maybe hundreds of bases in the region, we kill the innocent with drone attacks on and on and on.

    • How does it effect the global economy?pinkfloyd
    • One word: "OIL"HijoDMaite
    • cause man all out war in that region is going to be fucked up. Like WW3 status homey.HijoDMaite
    • Isn't there a war already? I'm not sold that it would affect the global economy. There's war in that area many timespinkfloyd
    • Why would there be an all out warpinkfloyd
    • war/instability is bad for economy because it discourages investment.mrrgl
  • pinkfloyd0

I'll be very honest, and say i'm naive to what's really going on, but based on my research is the U.S. involved because they have interest in having a location in the Middle East (Palestine), just like they have bases in S. Korea because they want a base in the middle of Asia? This is why Russia and China would? get involved?

Is this why the Middle East hates us because the U.S. is involved with the Palestenian and Israel conflict because the Palestinians are arabs and most of the middle east is arabs?

    • Or is the U.S. more involved because of the financial backings by the Jewish community?pinkfloyd
    • I think pretty much every assessment you made in this statement is inaccurate.HijoDMaite

"Israel IDF attacked the boats in international waters"

    no they didn't attack.

israel told everybody beforehand that they would enforce the blockade, days ahead of the incident, many times over. they warned them.

activists decided to try to break the blockade anyway. they knew israeli military wouldn't let them through.

when israeli commandos tried to board the ships they were attacked by militants, couple of people shot in self-defence.

so, this wasn't an israeli attack, this was an anti-israeli provocation with the expected result. militants asked for it, got their wish. same old.

    • Yes they did... in international waters!utopian

"yes but that position assumes that the IDF are the legitimate source of control and power which IMO can't be the case when there is illegal occupations and a blockade of gaza."
    - lowimpakt

this is true, the legitimacy very questionable. but that's only an academic point. IDF rules, legally or not, via absolute military superiority. with egypt and syria currently neutralized, there's nothing that will change that in the foreseeable future, especially not stone-throwing kids or crude rockets. the simple reality is that if you attack israel you will positively get your ass kicked, and that if you don't attack israel they will abuse you way, way less.

to me personally, everything except the expanding settlements is something I would do exactly the same, because I see no alternative for security reasons. the wall, the checkpoints, the raids, the gaza blockade; to me these were reactions to proven asymetrical threats (see second intifida, weapons smuggling, and so on), common sense.

    _

"i'm am mostly a pacifist but as a human if I was forced to live in an "open prison" by an external force i would probably do everything in my power to fuck their shit up. I'm not trying to rationalise Hamas actions but I can understand why young men and women sign up to their shit."

I definetely understand where the hatred and radicalism comes from, I can sympathize as well. the question is how many generations of palestinians you want to sacrifice for a *symbolic* resistance, futile resistance, before they decide to move on and have a life. this is of course their decision to make, but to be fair you cannot point your finger at israel and cry murder and genocide when you chose to engage a nuclear power with your slingshot.

    • imagineallthepeople, you're from israel so you better than anyone here can tell us what's going on in your country. I have a single question though, "did hamas ever said that they abducted the 3 teenagers?"GeorgesIV

On - http://www.ustream.tv/OccupiedAi… - I think it's cool that the roosters in Gaza sound just like roosters anywhere. I don't know, I just had this thought that those chickens are probably someone's livelihood, their source of food, oblivious to conflict. Just being chickens and making their own racket at night that the people are probably all used to. Then they have the buzzing overhead.

    • heh, i just turned it off not long after that - constant buzzing was making me feel nauseous :\detritus

We talk about the deads and injured people but we dont talk about all the people (and many childrens) that will be all fucked up because of the anxiety and stress caused by this inhuman situation. Post-traumatic disorder and stuff like that..

We just can't understand what is it to feel the fear of war, hearing the bombs falling and fear for your life like this. You have to live it, we can't understand that.

All my thoughts go out to the children's out there.

if you want to keep war in perspective. For example. IF your more pissed off on Israel action then you were in US action in the 1st and 2nd gulf war, afghan, then your biased either by disproportionate media coverage of children dying in Afghanistan or iraq or just a personal bias. Its same thing by result. Its more direct but not the only method of population control...

This has been going on my entire life. Both sides are so hard-headed, unwilling to try and put themselves in the others' shoes. Which is ironic given both their histories. Throw religious fundamentalism in there, whether extreme or merely right wing and it's not surprising this story has not found an end yet.
I have no sympathy for either side. A belligerent government on one side and a terrorist one on the other. Both are equally wrong. You'd think in 2012 civilisation would have come far beyond this kind of violence. But no, still suck in the dark ages.
But...it's important to separate religion from nationism/nationality. Remember that jews and muslims from around the world condemn both sides actions. Yes Israel is a jewish state, but Israelis are not all jewish, and not all jews support israel. Judaism is a religion not a nationality. I also don't know any muslims that support Hamas either.
It would be nice for same rational thought on both sides, but then, that's very unlikely given the history of this conflict.

    • would like to see them come to light.HijoDMaite
    • First false statement. Arabs have rights in Israel but there are Jewish Arabs, Christian Arabs, Muslim Arabs or Arabs without any religion. Palestinians are overwhelmingly Muslim.Beeswax
    • without any religion. Palestinians are overwhelmingly Muslim. As an example Sabra and Shatila massacre has been done by Christian Arabs while being assisted by Israelis.Beeswax
    • Christian Arabs and assisted by Israelis. So when he says look at all these Arabs in Israel those are not Muslims or Palestinian Muslims.Beeswax
    • Palestinian Muslims.Beeswax
    • A similar denial has been done by Turkey by pointing out to the Kurdish parliament members while non assimilated Kurds were stripped of their basic rights.Beeswax
    • were stripped of their basic rights. So you can be an Arab in Israel but you have to be a 'certain kind' of Arab.Beeswax
    • facts are only facts if they are unbiased.. otherwise they are just propagandaautoflavour
    • So what you are essentially saying is that there are no Muslim Palestinians is Israel with full rights?HijoDMaite
    • that doesn't make sense being that there are Mosques all over Israel and calls to prayer in cities from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.HijoDMaite
    • Although I have read that Israeli courts have banned Muslims from praying at the top Jewish Holy sites...HijoDMaite
