what kind of backups? Family photos, work? How often do you need to backup? Are you planning to access backups often?

zaq – was hoping for a daily back-up of work - would be a huge
initial back-up - 700gb

are looks good - anyone using this?

look into Amazon Glacier, it's the cheapest backup you can find today.
Just keep in mind it's easy to put files there, but retrieving is tricky. Which should be fine if you use backup in case of emergency.Glacier 700gb will cost you $7/month. After your initial upload, I recommend you to use https://www.iceboxpro.com/regist…

Amazon Glazier looks like a bit of a pain?

thanks guys for the responses, really appreciated - my ideal solution would be a product that:
- I can archive all of my data
- Use as a daily back-up of files
- Use to access files remotely (from home, abroad etc)be interesting to hear your feedback on some of the products you've already mentioned, crashplan looks promising - I'm not looking of rthe cheapest option as it's for business use - just the most user friendly/reliable..

I've been using Crashplan for about 2 years now. So far, so good. The backups happen automatically in the background and never interfere with what I'm going and *knock on wood* I've never had to go in there to retrieve any files.
I use it primarily as a last resort for a worst case scenario and for that it seems to be pretty good.

Carbonite seems similar to crash plan. I use it and love being able to access anything from anywhere. One additional feature is that it will back up "mobile" as well, just have to download the app and it will back shiz up there as well.

I'm using CrashPlan https://www.crashplan.com bought a year of the thing, it's unlimited capacity.
The only complain I have with it is the speed of upload, I have 10 megabits up and this thing is uploading at 2.3 megabits, I'm thinking about removing the movies folder from this online backup thing and leave that for the Time Machine.
- A friend recovered all his photo collection from Crashplan after a hard drive crash, so yeah.ernexbcn

I have a NAS drive at home in a cupboard that auto-backs up nightly, with a NAS drive at my parents that backs up the work partition from that once a week. I can also access both wirelessly.
No monthly cost, just the cost of a 2TB NAS drive for home (with movies/TV on a 1TB partition) and a 1TB work NAS drive at my parents. Total cost was £160.
- 1TB and 2TB versions of these:
http://www.pixmania.…orrinward2 - They're low-end NAS drives and sometimes require a reset, but the storage works fine and I can stream off my at-home NAS just fine.orrinward2
- NAS just fine.orrinward2
- Pointless if you have a fire or other catastrophic event.ETM
- Never mind. I somehow missed the parents part. :/ETM
- Pointless is we have simultaneous fires!orrinward2

you should wait when http://www.spacemonkey.com/ will be available.
Space Monkey changes how you store data, forever. The Space Monkey device moves the cloud into your home, making it easier than ever to store, share, and access all your digital content—photos, videos, documents, and music—online.
