Anybody using Gmail to pick up Media Temple emails?
Recently it's been slow picking them up, like 20/30 mins between them being sent and gmail showing them.
Checked my webmail and they're on the server. So not sure what's happening, but it points to gmail.
Changed some the nameservers last week to gridserver.com instead of domain.com which seemed to work at first, but now again this 30 minute lag...Any help appreciated.

I think it has to do with POP forwarding / checking intervals... I think gmail checks POP account at intervals versus updating your inbox in realtime, which I think is actually a limitation of POP technology. I think...

makes sense with what I found.
So they have just moved to pop? as it was ok before

I think all webmail accounts through MT are POP by default... although I could be wrong.
I use google apps with my MT domain and have my MT zone file configured to work with google apps, which is all IMAP.
- They are POP/IMAP depending on how you configure your email client. Sorry about that. Gmail is all IMAP by defaultd_rek
- But since you're fetching from an external source gmail only checks them at an intervald_rek
- you could try manually refreshing your mailbox more frequentlyd_rek
- Also, I've found MT's webmail to be rather slow...d_rek
- You might also try clearing out cookies / cache from your browserd_rek

yeah a regular refresh won't work I have to go into settings and then fetch from each email separately. Not really good in a busy day.
I thought my MT stuff was all iMAP, until a recent server migration...
Maybe I should have a look at the zone file for each domain as you have it set up.
and probably fuck stuff up =)

It looks like it's a fairly common issue with gmail fetching from external accounts.
I have gmail fetching from 3 different accounts and the 3 external ones all arrive at a later time. Thankfully, none of those accounts are business accounts... they're just leftover personal accounts from the last few years that I can't seem to escape.

so while you're here d_rek.
I have a few domains I need to receive email from.
Do I need a google/app account for all of those domains, to recieve the advantage of IMAP based emails across my MT domains?

I don't believe so... IMAP will overall be more reliable as well as have a few other benefits that POP can't really compete with.. but i'm not sure it will help in terms of speed of delivery of your email.
It looks like MT email servers are configured for both POP and IMAP ... which means that it depends on how you configure your email client to fetch (either POP3 or IMAP).
If you are simply looking for the benefits of IMAP then I think you would need to go into gmail and edit the settings to enable IMAP for each account you're fetching from.

This is from MT's website:
Incoming Connections
IMAP, non-SSL: 143
*IMAP, SSL: 993
POP, non-SSL: 110
POP, SSL: 995
Outgoing SMTP ConnectionsSSL^: 465 (or 587)
non-SSL: 25You could try setting the ports gmail is fetching from to an IMAP specific port also. Again, not sure it will increase frequency of delivery though...

Media Temple... a fucking joke of a service!
- Years of reliable service at extremely affordable price? How is that a joke?d_rek
- But i'm open to alternativesd_rek
- Their VS 3.5 and VS 4.0 have been rock solid. Zero issues.ETM

Utopian is often a troll. The issue is not even MT specific.
Anyway, the other way to handle this would be to simply have the MT account(s) forward to the gmail account and set it leave a copy on the server if you want a backup. Simply having an inbox AND a forward setup will achieve this (at least on a VS), I assume Grid is similar.

I GUESS I AM WRONG?
