I know I will probably get slammed, but so far I have not been that impressed with (mt). At first I was, with the speed they activated the account for my client etc, it was all activated and live within the hour.
However, I find transfering via ftp to be painful, non stop connection errors, and time outs when transfering lots of files, problems I have never had on the 8 different hosts I have setup in my ftp program and frequently transfer files on.
Not to mention on numerous ocaissions I havent been able to log into the control panel and accessing it has been slow all day.

yeah, well (MT) can be a bit of a pain when it comes to uploading indeed. i remember this being discussed here before.
i vaguely remember, (not sure though) that (MT) uses a special secure method that slows it down a bit...
- NegativeSpace0
User error, I think not.
- NegativeSpace0
Yeah it is a bit slow, but I could even deal with that, its just socket errors, and my queue stops and stuff, i try to resume and I get errors again. Then I have to start from scratch or upload sub folder by sub folder so only a few files are going at a time, its messed.

i am a total beginner whe n it comes to html or coding or anything web related...and mt is my very first host...everything you have described has happened to me, especially at night, when uploading to my server, my files whcich should take mere seconds take hours, and then it times out for what purpose i dunt know, i even totally stopped giving a fuck with the site due to the annoying ftp issues i have and for me its only for fun not my livlyhood as it seems to be yours, i could imagine the hate for someone who needs this function for their werk it must be an issue...
but then again, i did get my site up and running with-in a few minutes affter i signed up...well it was much longer than that and i had a lot of help from a lot of people on here, especially v3 for helping me set up my account with mt and testpilot for helping me learn css, and scripting and show/ hide...
anyways i totally agree with you that mt has issues, but its my first...so i dont fully understand what it is that i have, but the insanity i throw down is fun!!!!
im sober and the weather is raining hard so my delivery dont want to get wet...im starting to twitch....

Are you guys kidding me? I have had very few errors with my dedicated server there - and any errors are fixed extremely fast!
Im sure they would appreciate any feedback you have about there services, just send them a note!
ps. try not to knock companies until you have spoken to someone at the company about your issues. Not a good practice in business.

if you read my post you would clearly see that i use mt for only non business related hosting. so as you are saying, that since its not business related i can bad mouth mt as much as i like, thanks!!!!

are you sure its mt and not your isp?
- NegativeSpace0
Yes.
Because I am working with a partner on this project who is using a different ISP and he has the exact same problems.

ive also been pretty annoyed with (mt) lately. their service is good and that was the reason i went with them in the first place, but their features are pretty standard and there are alot of hosting sites that do it for alot less.

I have had the same issue with them. my FTP connection was always erroring out, using Comcast Cable, Charter Cable, SBC DSL and a detected T-1 all had connection issue (transfer a few files bump) and a university connection (OC-48)
I finally called their support and they passed it off as a problem with my internet connection. at that point it was like what ever and i dealt with it since that was the provider my client choose

I haven't had 1 problem with mt since I started using them a year or so ago. (well, my php server was down the other day.. But that was the first.) Nice to have 24x7 support too. I got it with the 50% off NT deal. Definitely solid.

bluehost.com is pretty good

MT has pretty good prices for what they offer. Never had the FTP problems some of you are complaining about.
What clients do you use for FTP?
- version30
great question fate_
i use SmartFTP with ABSOLUTELY no problems
the only time i have ever had a problem uploading to the was a result of my ISP
poor software choices count as user error imo

upload with "passive ftp" checked...i never have problems...

Have used CuteFtp Pro, and also used Transmit on my mac.
- fate_0
Well CuteFTP sucks. I used to use it religiously, but there are so many annoying quirks...like CHMOD commands not actually changing shit, slow connect times to MT, Uploading slowing my whole connection to a hault...
I just switched to SmartFTP. Not as pretty, but same functionality, lighter, and faster.

transmit kicks ass
