I don't believe so... IMAP will overall be more reliable as well as have a few other benefits that POP can't really compete with.. but i'm not sure it will help in terms of speed of delivery of your email.
It looks like MT email servers are configured for both POP and IMAP ... which means that it depends on how you configure your email client to fetch (either POP3 or IMAP).
If you are simply looking for the benefits of IMAP then I think you would need to go into gmail and edit the settings to enable IMAP for each account you're fetching from.
