I dont worry about it. It's so unbelievably rare for this to happen in the US. I have a gun. Everything else will just work itself out.

EVERYONE, IN CASE OF DISASTER,
LET'S ALL MEET UP AT MG33'S DAD'S PLACE
it's only 2 hours by car, i'll create a facebook event,
ok, now I seriously need to bounce :)

Those are good tips. My wife and I have talked before about her dad's house well outside of Chicago being used as a meeting point. By car it's a little under 2 hours. On foot or other transportation it'd be far longer. We probably need something a little closer in to Chicago as an initial meeting point (I work in the loop downtown, she works north of here about 7 miles, our house is closer to her than me).
- no matter what you chose, make sure only you, your wife knows it, don't go around talking about your secret spot :)GeorgesII

The thing I use,
- you should at least have drinking water for a week
- you should keep dry food/cans for at least a week
- an old FM battery (keep fresh batteries) radio
- something you could use as weapon
- loads of toilet paper
- alcohol to drink and clean your wounds
- a meeting place for you and your familly,
I can stress that enough, in case of disaster phone lines could be occupied or just down, make sure you've planned a meeting place where every member of your family know to get there even when you can't reach them- sorry gotta bounce soon,
there are tons of good blogs out there, just be weary of those telling you to buy coins, etcGeorgesII

Wondering if any of you have any well-defined plans or preparations to deal with a disaster in your city. I don't necessarily mean on the level of that Doomsday Preppers, but just general things like access to water, food for a few days, money on hand if banks are closed, a meeting point for family of you are separated during a disaster, etc.
I feel like the older I get the more I realize if something catastrophic were ever to happen, it's going to suck to not be able to survive in the short-term when it will matter most.
