I don’t consider myself a prepper but I’ve got enough desert festival gear to build a small village. Recently bought a ShiftPod. Also have a Honda EU22001 gennie, 3000w solar array and a pretty large lithium ion battery bank (just switched over from 25x lead acid deep cycle marine batteries). I have light stands, water filters, 5-gal storage jugs, folding bed, a van and a 5x8” box trailer to store it all in.

Only thing i need is emergency shelf stable food. Previously i had a case of MREs but rats ate the entire thing. Right now i just have lists of the stuff i need, immediate and long term. I figure you should have a solution for 2-3 days, 2-3 weeks, and 6 month+. The long term kit should have stuff like extra antibiotics, tools, textiles, and seeds.

Some friends have a bit of land in colorado.

I wanna be able to start a new colony at the drop of a hat

    • yeah man! I got my eye on a couple lots down here around 10 hectares for around $10k US about 1/2 click from the beach, the drawback is its secludedmoldero

I live in a hamlet of 50-ish folks all with varied skills; fish, hunt, etc., vast gardens and deep freezers.

We wouldn't even notice unless it was in the local newspaper.

Also, a river runs down the Niagara escarpment into the hamlet, where I get my well water from.

    : )

    • Damn, you can work via lte? I just sent 4 3gb files to Europe this morning - I needs the high-speed.Gnash

The worst thing I ever saw in my life as far as a huge mess with people actually suffering was Katrina, and that was just in NO, and only for 3 or 4 days. Dunno what I would ever really need a survival kit for.

If something happens I'll deal with it, but I seriously doubt anything would happen where Im sucking dew off a fucking blade of grass to survive.

I've got two Robert de Niro faced flesh lights and a shit load of batteries, so I should be fine for the occasional hate-wank after the apocalypse hits.

    • lolmoldero
    • They have poseable faces. By which I mean they remain entirely and singularly rubbery and consistent, as is the very epitome of de Niro's lack of range.Nairn
    • Still, it's amusing to pull up his cheeks into a morbid grimace after I've filled his mouth.

      OK, enough.
      Nairn
    • I fucking hate de Niro.

I hope he doesn't survive the apocalypse.
      Nairn
    • Disaster Preparation:
Ascertain whether de Niro has survived the apocalypse; if so - hunt down and kill.
      Then wank over corpse.

    • Picked up a Honda generator Finally. That was the last bit of gear I needed.Gnash
    • nice!moldero
    • Cabin up north stocked up nice. Bag in the car, bag at home.Gnash
    • I have a champion inverter generator and to this day wish I’d stumped up extra $$ for a Honda. So so quiethardhat
    • took me ages to decide on a genni. In the end I went with heavy dutyGnash
    • Ya, quiet is important, but quality for long term use was key for me.Gnash
    • I’m not a mechanical mcgiver so I want dependable gearGnash
    • I also want to be able to power a 240 welderGnash
    • I’ve been trying to get solar setup working better, but I think I’ll have to stump for LiFePO4 batterieshardhat
    • Ya, all about the batteries ^Gnash

My dad 'Filipino fisherman raised in Hawaii' taught me how to throw a Hawaiian throwing net since I was a kid, pretty good at it, also been spear fishing since I was a kid, & went commercial salmon fishing the last 2 summers, I live on the beach in Mexico so as far as food goes, I'll be good, I have 2 refrigerators & picking up a couple proper chest freezers this weekend from my Canadian friends that are moving back to Canada, got a good genny for power, looking into picking up 4 or so 50 gallon drums to store backup water, my pantry is stocked to the max with non perishables, trucks always gassed up.

paranoid? maybe. worried? nope, just ready.

    what y'all doing?

lets get some action in this thread, curious to see how others are prepping or not

    • Are you ok?

You've been.. a little left of centre recently.

    • ^^ its all going down man!
the isolation may be getting to me
      moldero
    • No going to lie - I discussed 'bug out plans' with my partner back in Feb when it looked a bit dodgy with the whole Wuhan Flu thing on the horizon.Nairn
    • while all my friends are starting to hang out with each other again im still taking this quarantine shit pretty serious I guessmoldero
    • (as it what as the time - I'm not trumpeting Trump's bullshit 'Chinaaah Virus')Nairn
    • + Trumps been playing it as if its nothing to worry about, & we didn't even hit wave 2 yetmoldero
    • so you have the right saying "everything is fine' then you have the left shutting down small businesses, both are recipes for disastermoldero

Jaysus Mike, what's going on with you? You worry if Italy is still there when you go there on your honeymoon, brace for armageddon at home...

Is this marriage thing putting all that stress on you? :D

  • BK1

Have enough supplies to bunker down at home unsupported for 3 months.

Keep extra gas for your vehicle & cash in case you need to leave the region.

Anything longer than that is going to be more of a national/international catastrophe and your LifeStraw and fire starter ain't gonna help you.

    The thing I use,
    - you should at least have drinking water for a week
    - you should keep dry food/cans for at least a week
    - an old FM battery (keep fresh batteries) radio
    - something you could use as weapon
    - loads of toilet paper
    - alcohol to drink and clean your wounds
    - a meeting place for you and your familly,
I can stress that enough, in case of disaster phone lines could be occupied or just down, make sure you've planned a meeting place where every member of your family know to get there even when you can't reach them

    • sorry gotta bounce soon,
there are tons of good blogs out there, just be weary of those telling you to buy coins, etc

Those are good tips. My wife and I have talked before about her dad's house well outside of Chicago being used as a meeting point. By car it's a little under 2 hours. On foot or other transportation it'd be far longer. We probably need something a little closer in to Chicago as an initial meeting point (I work in the loop downtown, she works north of here about 7 miles, our house is closer to her than me).

    • no matter what you chose, make sure only you, your wife knows it, don't go around talking about your secret spot :)GeorgesII
