They make those shirts so expensive, so the rest of us can identify insecure douchebags from far away

Why are these boots $675?
- I wouldn't wear those for free. Gross. At least some of the expensive shirts are wearable.randomname
- Because they're actual space boots?fyoucher1

usually their designs are hand made and not too sourced so there is cost to the designer there, then barney's overhead, then barney's markup.
look at some of the made in usa jeans like roy denim, acne, etc all selling very expensively, you're buying a boutique item for a premium markup when you buy these items through retailers instead of direct from the manufacturers

why is designer clothing expensive? is that what this thread is asking?
- I think the issue is that it look like stuff you could pick up at a flea market.CanHasQBN

One thing is 'designer' clothing, and another one is 'we'll take advantage of you, sucker' clothing..never confuse the two.

^ Exactly. The $425 shirt in particular doesn't look special or exotic at all.

I bought a jacket once for $750. I rarely wore it. Maybe five times. It's lambskin leather. I still have it.

I made this as an exercise:
Materials + tax + shipping + some ther fees (cards/paypal) = around $30
If I sell it, common rule I'd sell it for $60. Then it'd be resell by retailers around $120 <-- I think this is too pricey. If I do big run then I could almost cut it by 30-40%.
Now on the shirt, judging on those pics alone, it doesn't look like a $400++ shirts. But I have sewn a custom shirt myself, using a fine shirting cotton by Scabal @ $65/metres. Based on that, then it could be around that price on stores. But mine looked way better than that :).
