- I preferred the first versions. The year is way too small, even when the logo is big like it is hereChimp

Both are solid executions. My only question is what is the motivation for the retro feel to the logo? I only ask because that seems to be norm these days of making logos a vintage feel to it whether it's warranted or not (I've been guilty of this too). Is it to show it's history, stylistic choice or client request?
- you answered your own question.....seems to be norm these daysdbloc

#2 is best.
might need a little more.
The automobile looks a little floaty.

I definitely think the second one looks better and more "French Alps." Seems kind of timeless like old Tour De France lettering.

#1 to me have stronger presence since its more balance.
#2 makes me think of scale

Very nice!
Don't know which I prefer.I don't think the number should just be 72 though as joe bloggs won't put 2+2 together to realise it's meant to be Established 1972.
I think it needs the full 1972.Behind the cog in the second one, what about putting simplified illustration of The Alps or the mountains near the town that the garage is in. Particularly if they are unique shaped hills.
