What this needs is for Kony to die of natural causes in the next few days. Would be interesting to see what would happen to entire campaign.

This video scares me. I haven't seen it, so I'm not talking abou the content. The part that scares me is how so many people people can so quickly jump to a certain conclusion about something they know nothing about.
Makes me wonder if Hollywood were smart enough, or paid enough, if they could create a movie that would make all these people do whatever they wanted. The amount of people I've seen on Facebook talking about this video makes it look like we are all sheep just doing what we're told.
Have I missed something by not watching the video? Have people lost the ability to think for themselves because of viral videos? Fuck, I don't know, I'm still not watching that video.
My little rant that means nothing. Carry on.
- This video prove that people got the real power,WE run the economy,WE can make it stop.ApeRobot
- Who is this WE you're talkin about? What are YOU doing about this situation now? Are you SURE it's the right thing to do?capn_ron
- Or, are you just doing something a video said to do? Are you doing something because everyone else is doing it without thinking about it?capn_ron
- Ok, i'll give up on everything, because maybe this is not the true truth, i'll rather do nothing.ApeRobot
- good idea. Wanna. Set for some coffee and chat about the weather? I'll buy.capn_ron
- Don't stop your plight Ape. I'm just ranting here. Go change the world and do it with a smile. Signed, grumpy old man.capn_ron
- I'm not claiming that this is the truth. I'm just saying that consumers old the economy.ApeRobot
- hold
ApeRobot - I agree 100% with you. Our dollars are our votes. Everyday I think about that.capn_ron

Although its a great cause, it feels like a nike ad and something about the way this guy talks makes me want to vomit in my mouth a little. Its like... good cause = soapbox for spouting righteous diatribe. I don't feel compelled to do this "cover the night" crap because he pours so much of himself into it that it's almost like "his" cause, not Uganda's cause. Whatever. Maybe that's a plightless white cinematographer's journey — adopt a cause to find validation. It feels ingenuine, even though it's about a genuine problem.
Kony comes off as naughty rebel who needs to be "brought to justice" instead of a feared war criminal, which illustrates just how detached it all is. We went to Uganda. We made friends on camera. We talked about scary things. We came back to the states and edited some footage. Fuck off.
But also: Fuck That Kony guy
- this guy makes a video for the world.. and you post some stupid shit to nobody.. makes me say hmmmmmmmmbliznutty
- If it's a video to the world, I'm entitled to a reaction.cannonball1978

Dangerous ignorance: The hysteria of Kony 2012
The video qualifies as irresponsible advocacy by prompting militarisation and detracting from Uganda's real problems.--
Kampala, Uganda - From Kampala, the Kony 2012 hysteria was easy to miss. I'm not on Facebook or Twitter. I don't watch YouTube and the Ugandan papers didn't pick up the story for several days. But what I could not avoid were the hundreds of emails from friends, colleagues, and students in the US about the video by Invisible Children and the massive online response to it.
I have not watched the video. As someone who has worked in northern Uganda and researched the war there for more than a decade, much of it with a local human rights organisation based in Gulu, the Invisible Children organisation and their videos have often left me infuriated - I remember the sleepless nights after I watched their "Rough Cut" film for the first time with a group of students, after which I tried to explain to the audience what was wrong with the film while on stage with one of the filmmakers.
My frustration with the group has largely reflected the concerns expressed so convincingly by those online critics who have been willing to bring the fury of Invisible Children's true believers down upon themselves in order to point out what is wrong with this group's approach: the warmongering, the narcissism, the commercialisation, the reductive and one-sided story they tell, their portrayal of Africans as helpless children in need of rescue by white Americans.
As a result of Invisible Children's irresponsible advocacy, civilians in Uganda and central Africa may have to pay a steep price in their own lives so that a lot of young Americans can feel good about themselves, and a few can make good money. This, of course, is sickening, and I think that Kony 2012 is a case of Invisible Children having finally gone too far. They are now facing a backlash from people of conscience who refuse to abandon their capacity to think for themselves.

While I did post the KONY 2012 video last night, I have only pledged my email address. It is a worthwhile video to spread, but please do all your research before you start blanketing the internet with your next "good cause" and certainly before you open your wallet. For starters here is a good article by Alex Miller at VICE with some interesting criticisms.

The 2 factions emerge:
Those who can think for themselves and already take an active interest in the world they live in.
And those who are told what to think and do and take an active interest because everyone else is.
Great cause, shady charity... Research and think for yourself before jumping on any bandwagons however just they may seem (no excuse not to in the wired world)

New game... Where's Kony?
