@Georges (again)
I am not pretending to be an activist because I give to a cause that I care about. The creators were smart (and fortunate) enough to build a brilliant campaign explaining the issue to the mass.
Its got nothing to do about being AGAINST other issues. Just being FOR a well explained cause, even if simplfied.
Isn't that what designers do though? Communicate messages in a creative and easy to understand manner?

From reddit:
I went through their financials in the original thread on the front page yesterday, and I'd like to share with you my concerns...Of the $8.9 million in donations they spent in 2011, this is the breakdown:
$1.7 million in US employee salaries
$357,000 in Film costs
$850,000 in Production costs
$751,000 in Computer equipment
$244,000 in "professional services" (DC lobbyists)
$1.07 million in travel expenses
$400,000 in yearly office rent in downtown San Diego
$16,000 in Entertainment
etc...Only 2.8 million (31%) made it to their charity program (which is further whittled down by local Ugandan bureaucracy) - what do the children actually get?
[1] Source on page 6 and 12 of their own financial report
Their rating on Charity Navigator is because [2] they haven't had their financial books independently audited, and have no independent board members ...which is not a surprising given the use of cash noted above.

I wish people were just as corcerned about gun violence as they are about Kony 2012. Many children in under privileged communities are dying by the thousands because of gun violence here in America. The sad thing is these digital freedom fighters get pumped about a crisis happening in another continent. Yet, as they buy their "Action Kit" another child has been shot to death 8 miles away from their neighborhood.
- Gun violence in america is the result of there politic, you can not compare america to africa.ApeRobot
- No I cannot compare when it comes to certain standards of poverty. However both continents have high mortality rates among black youth. Majority of the deaths come from violence. We Americans learn to ignore others just because there in America.Thecreativeone

Jason Russell
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Jason Russell is an American political activist and public masturbator responsible for the campaign "Kony 2012".

So if the campaign totally fucks up and results in more deaths of children - US intervention, increased action from Ugandan government - are supporters of #stopkony culpable?
I mean, you guys (whoever supports this charity) get what's going on here right? You are rallying for military action.
- we wouldn't get a medal of honor if it's successful, so nolocustsloth
- I'm speaking of moral culpability, OBVS.ThePublics

This thread exists therefore the video has done its job. It's an amazing pieces of viral marketing, extremely well planned and orchestrated.
It proves youtube/facebook as a useful medium but it's far too much power for such a small group to be wielding. IT seems they've taken it all into their own hands, without really trying to collaborate in a useful way with any other charities/humanitarian groups etc.Still, you have to hand it to the creators of the video, it seems they will have managed what so many others haven't... to motivate a young and apathetic generation into (potential) action for a charitable cause.
- Proves the point. People bitching against it is as good as the people for it. :)

"It would be great to get rid of Kony. He and his forces have left a path of abductions and mass murder in their wake for over 20 years. But let's get two things straight: 1) Joseph Kony is not in Uganda and hasn't been for 6 years; 2) the LRA now numbers at most in the hundreds, and while it is still causing immense suffering, it is unclear how millions of well-meaning but misinformed people are going to help deal with the more complicated reality."

Kind of reminds me of when someone finds a designer that rips work on QBN.
