My wife and I really wanted to go to Europe. We had our hearts set on it, but it was just way too expensive.
I had a client that had a vacation rental on Kauai and was able to work out a trade for free lodging, so it made going there too good of a deal to pass up.
Initially when I booked the trip we were both kind of upset about it. I always thought the whole "going to Hawaii for our honeymoon" was very cliche, and it felt like settling for our second choice.
BUT... neither one of us had every been to Hawaii and it was totally amazing and awesome and one of the best trips of my entire life. We can't wait to go back.
So in short, Hawaii ain't bad.

Puerto Rico - honeymoon suite upgrade after getting some marriage cash. Went to Flamenco beach on Culebra Island. #1 or 2 beach by Travel Channel at some point. Been to MIA, Rio, Jersey Shore, El Salvador, Cancun, Cali Beaches. Its #1 in my book. stay on island at least 1 night. (take flight not ferry to island)
Besides that, lots of activities to do. Bora Bora/Fiji would have been my other 2nd choice.

We spent 11 days in Scotland and 3 in London. Had never been and we both wanted to go. Very expensive, so we had to wait a year to be able to do it. We never stayed in the same spot twice, anything from little B&Bs to a castle suite.
We love the photography we ere able to capture, we had sun 10 of the 14 days and London was hot and sunny, all 3 days. I rare event indeed, I understand. ;)

Me and my fiance have been talking about this lately. We think we'd like to forego any exotic locales (cause they're fucking outrageously expensive) in favor of the natural splendor of the states. We're thinking a two-week long tour of some national parks and landmarks for some hiking and riding, followed up by a couple of days on Mackinac Island, MI eating fudge and sipping wine.

Drove across the Carolinas and Tennessee to Memphis. Would we have preferred Paris, the tropics, etc.? Sure thing. Was it pretty awesome to go on a road trip with your best friend? Absolutely. Long story short, make the trip more about you guys, and less about the destination, and you can't go wrong.
P.S. Don't stay at the Heartbreak Hotel. When you get a pool view room, you also get to take in the vista of the Heartbreak RV Park just beyond the pool. Alas, there is much heartbreak to be seen and found in said RV park.

I did a Mediterranean cruise. Greatest trip ever.
Expensive? Yes. But I don't plan on having another honeymoon, so it was well worth it.

We went to St. Lucia a day or 2 after our wedding.

We splurged a bit but did the Ying and Yang package to help extend our stay a bit. It was absolutely amazing and worth it.

We are currently - finally - planning our wedding and honeymoon and were first interested in Maui, but haven't found the smaller scale, more private places we want there. Lots of big resorts with lots of people and swimming pools.
We're trying to decide on a couple places in St. Lucia or Dominica, which have exactly what we want.
In St. Lucia, we're interested in Jade Mountain, which looks like some kind of post modern base on another planet, or something from Star Wars:
The rooms only have three walls with one wall open to the air and a private pool. We were on the go a lot last year on vacation, and really want a place to just chill out and read books and relax.
