Is it possible to sign up without Facebook?
- akrok0
sign-in with fuckbook instead.
- shapeaspect0
yes, just signup on their website. Log out of facebook on their and it lets you sign up normally.
- hmmm, I tried that but wasn't able to get it to workmonospaced
- hmm, worked for me when I signed up a while ago. Surely you don't have to have a FB accountshapeaspect
- actually, you do, as far as I can tell. if you can figure out the workaround, PLEASE SHARE!!!monospaced
- Looks like you're right. That sucks! luckily I got one before this happened.shapeaspect

I disabled the connection after finding that the app decided to post on my wall a load of crap.

This pisses me off too, freshdude. I don't understand why they'd require you to integrate Facebook in order to use their services. I wrote them about this and never got a reply.
- maikel0
^ everything integrates to FB, because is market research and segmentation for free - and social integration looks like the last buzzword learnt by the account guys and seems to work wonderfully in a pitch.
I am sill trying to figure out how on earth people expect you to connect 'all' with 'all'. I think I need to read Hume more in depth.

Social login seems to taking off, or at least everyone is jumping on the bandwagon. There are saas providers built around it now. The reason companies want it is because it gives them access to all sorts of 'useful' information about their users that they wouldn't likely get otherwise.
So in other words - suck it up.
Also Spotify BLOWS! Use Rdio. Seriously. It's an entirely better service. You can have unlimited, commercial free music for a relatively cheap price. Cost goes up for access to mobil app - but balls to it.
- Unlimited, commercial free music for a cheap price. Spotify should steal that idea...********

seriously... maybe it's gen-x vs gen-y, but I'd rather have separate logins... multiple accounts...
... the "value add" of "useful information access" that they get just gives me more spam-esque stuff.... and of course, a slight concern about whether certain clients would freak out if I listen to certain music....
- yeah - it's value add for them. that doesn't necessarily mean value add for the users.jtb26

I'm right on the saddle of the gen x-y thing (taste wise, my age puts me squarely y). So I get both sides of it.
I don't think it's too much too want privacy. You shouldn't have to jump through hoops to keep your listening habits private.

I'm really confused when people think Spotify forces you to post what you're listening to Facebook. In Preferences there is a checkbox next to the line "Show what I listen to on Facebook". You uncheck it.
- I suppose it's possible that this checkbox only shows up for Premium users? But I'm not sure.radiculture
- screw it, I'll sign up... only under this condition thoughmonospaced

compare to itunes which actually pays the artist when you buy the songs. sportify pays so low is makes a slave salary looks high.
it's great though, just sad how they run over the artist. (a few times).

I'm trying to figure out if it's something I want to embrace or not. I feel pretty successful at finding new music and buying it on itunes, and I'm fine with that. I never considered my music listening habits to be something I wanted to intertwine with my social presence on the web. It seems strange to be listening to music on a "service" and not on my ipad or ipod in which music I purchased is saved.
But, in the couple of days I've been testing it out, it's been nice to see friend's playlists and easily share songs and albums with them. It kind of gives me an outlet to share things quickly and get people into my favorite bands, and vice versa.
For those of you that are heavy users, do you pretty much use it now instead of music on an mp3 player?
- And, I can already tell it will be a massive productivity killer at work, so I'm not sure I want it long-term.mg33

i tried the free trial just so i could use it on my phone. truth-be-told i hardly used it in the 30 days. i listen to music usually about 10 hours a day (commute/work/gym/commute) and I don't want to think about what i need to play...this is where spotify failed for me.
i personally prefer the free pandora/soma fm/ turntable/spark radio/tune in fm and the likes. streaming without really thinking about it is what works for me. my 2¢

See, I never got into any of those other services either. I see the advantages, but I've honestly never been much of a random-playlist type of listener.
In fact, the only music service I've used on the web or my ipad/iphone is the Ghostly Discovery app from the Ghostly International label. http://ghostly.com/discovery
- it's not random... you build playlists like you normally domonospaced
- Yeah, I know, but I mean I've not been into other people's multi-band playlists.mg33
- gotcha... some are better than others for sure, but there are some gem lists out theremonospaced

I broke down and started using it a couple weeks ago. I was pleasantly surprised to see it load in all my local (iTunes) files and playlists, making it really easy to use Spotify exclusively. It does what iTunes does, then adds the social sharing part. I've discovered tons of new music that I love, which hasn't happened in years. Good stuff.
- mg330
Mono - have you found yourself buying music any less than before using it? I buy plenty of new stuff on itunes and wonder if I'll scale back on that at all.
I sort of wish I hadn't even given it a shot. I mean look, 30 - 45 minutes wasted this afternoon on it at work, then 15 or so wasted here talking about it.
- Totally scaled back. I don't HAVE to buy it unless I want to have the file in higher quality for more devices.monospaced

i buy less on itunes since spotify.

- Rdio is terrific.. i second that.bogue

you can buy music? who knew.

OK, so I ended up getting the $5 a month subscription and I've really come around on it. It's just still so different from my usual music listening process/habits.
At the moment, I'm really wishing I had the $9 membership to listen to my playlists off-line while at the gym on my phone. But, honestly, I've never listened to music on my iPhone. Just not something I ever really did.
