how do you react when people don't reply on your email for couple of days/weeks and you see them posting on facebook, twitter...commenting and doing stuff on the web, but constantly not replying on your email?
I personally don't do that, so I am just curious am I the only person who takes it a bit offensive, or that is a bit careless? I mean if I don't reply on your email right away, I will not strut around doing some useless shit on the net, and then come up with some stupid excuse...especially when the thing is urgent...
are the times changed, and people need special ritual before replying to emails, or I just don't get it?

depends on if it's important or not, business related or just social
if it's just a friend not replying, no need to get upset

1st world problem

Drop them an email and ask why?
I know I've been in this position a couple of times - epsecially in relation to people on the likes of QBN.
If you're amidst a period of sustained business, forums etc can offer an opportune moment of respite, whereas a considered email contact on the specific subject at hand, which can't be otherwise dealt with because of the period of sustained business, represents a gulf of thought and consideration, 'to be dealt with later, when I have time'.
Trouble is - if you're then 'caught' out in that moment of respite, it makes you look like you're simply being ign'ant.

joking aside I have had this as well and it is annoying.
especially as fbook enables us to see if people are online or not.
if important email then wrong, if not so important then late reply okay. or if its important and requires some thought then perhaps thats okay too... still a 1st world problem though

my emails flagged "respond to asap" is over 100 currently... not because i'm lazy, but because i get hundreds of emails a day. but i usually have that whittled down by the weekend- this has been a very busy week.
when i ignore my accounts emails, he sends me pictures of cats until i respond.

I usually don't check my emails if its past 6:pm or on a weekend,,, or on a weekday after 6:am or midweek while im up.

By the way...is there a method the check if your emails doesn't end up in spam? I don't mean sending mass campaigns or newsletters...just regular business mail. Sometimes it looks like they never got it. After a week or so I send it again from different alias and response comes after 10 minutes.
- yes, it's sometimes called a phonemonospaced
- this happens to me quite a bit too- i don't understand the logic of the spam filters sometimes or how to check that they got it.

I don't have a fb account, never had it...so I don't really get these things, according to some people it is very easy to expect someone to reply on fb private message almost instantly but when it comes to email, the people just have some kind of silly resistance and they are much more lazy...
- True for some people... especially some kids almost ignorr email and voicemail ... only fb and imvaxorcist

People who demand immediate responses are tyrants.
Don't you think that it's a bit egotistical to expect something of someone that you initiated contact with? And getting upset that they are socializing with friends instead of responding to you, doesn't that seem a bit stalkerish?
I get emails all the time, all day long, and often take a week to reply. The problem with a swift reply is that then the person will expect another and another, and then before you know you spend half your day writing emails. fuck that.
Unless it's pressing business that requires immediate attention, I absolutely take at least 3 days.

Responding right away seems to give the client (or emailer) the impression that you have time, the answers, right here, right now, to address their needs. When sometimes you have none of those, hence the dismissal. You've got other shit to do. Like tweet.

If it's urgent, and you notified them of this fact in the email (or maybe even in the subject so they spot it right away), it's better etiquette to respond to you quickly. Even with a "I will get back to you soon."
If it's not urgent, the timing is up in the air. I'd say a few days is fine. Some people allocate a set time to go through emails so they're not overwhelmed or thinking about it constantly. It's a system they have in place as a form of time management / organization too.
People expect email to be like instant messaging now.
With social networking and using that in leisure time, I find myself being more self-conscious about not answering emails as more and more clients become your "friends" on FB or "follow" you on Twitter. I try to shoot out an email saying something like "I'm working on it" or "I will respond soon" to reassure the client.

Was there a whole lot of client induced changes? Burned out developers do this when they feel like too many random changes of project direction in their eyes....

Sounds like you emailed a girl and she didn't write back.
Sorry duuuuuuude, she's not into you.

I find many people today are to self-absorbed, obnoxious and caught up in their own world to give two fucks about what anyone wants! Particularly the fucking Hipsters cruising down the middle of the street on their fixed gear bike, puffing away on a Camel/Lucky Strike/Parliament and clambering away on their iPhone all at the same time.

Happened to me, and have done it as well. If its important and I actually need a response ASAP, i'll usually just post on their wall "just wanted to double check you got that email". Always works wonders and at the very least I get a response saying "yeah sorry just been busy, ill respond asap".. same goes for anyone. If they're stressing cuz theyre waiting for a reply from me and they see me tweet/post and are like wtf whats he doing?! thats their problem, if its urgent the squeaky wheel will get the grease motherfucker, Ive got a thousand things running through my head at any given moment, you're not my whole world.
- loool0
it is not a love or stalkery crap, but it happened couple of times...I just wanted to know is my look on those things different than normal, because I don't give people impression that "they are not my whole world and to go fuck themselves"... if I don't reply immediately on urgent mail then I don't tweet about Burton's Alice in Wonderland or post on some people's walls commenting some shitty pics...that way you give the impression I personally don't like... but maybe it is just me

email =/= instant messenger
Maybe I want to take a dump more than once before emailing you back. My prerogative.
- < this - if you want instant contact, call them.mantrakid

Is it:
1 a client you're in the middle of a project?
2 a possible client you're pitching?
3 a girl?
4 a long loat college friend?
