can't vlc player convert?

Well I got quicktime pro and even when I jack the kbps up to 1000 it's complete garbage quality. Is there some way to make an HD quality MP4 from an HD Mov file?

I use iSkysoft Video Converter - I had to buy it (or rather my company bought it), but I really like it - simple to convert a shitload of formats and multiple files at once.
- when you need to make WMV's this is a godsend._me_

Quicktime is dodgy and can cause colours to shift, I use HandBreak but the UI is fucking annoying in that you have to reset the size manually if the movies are not the same size (it does the first automatically then fucks the rest IIRC) and it automatically names them m4v instead of mp4 for some fucking stupid reason
- they chose m4v as they also use m4a for aac audio. makes more sense than mp3, mp4.eficks

yeah don't use quicktime
it definitely can cause problems, especially if viewing the file directly on some newer tv's.Mpeg Stream Clip is my choice.
