So we all know that the fold no longer applies and that users are accustom to scrolling but....the exec's at our company are hampering our redesign project because they say that that the fold is real.
Our entire team can talk til we are blue in the face, so we need hard evidence that fold is no more...
Does anyone one know of any proven studies about user tendencies that we could use?
Thanks All.

You're trying to convince a bunch of suits that the fold doesnt matter anymore? Good luck with that.

The fold is still very relevant when applied to the "home page" in my opinion.

What's a scrollbar? I normally cannot surf the web, unless everything is put above the fold for me to see. Otherwise I get nervous and stop giving my money to big corporations. I hope big execs realize this keep things above this fold. Who knows what is below the fold line. I'm not going to risk going down there.

Just had a meeting with a client who had huge amounts of content. he said "I just want a three page site. And I don't want to scroll. No one scrolls. I hate scrolling." He also seemed to want to point to things on my screen but putting his finger on it. "Please, you don't need to touch my screen." "Sorry." Three seconds later *stab* "See, I wouldn't read all this stuff you have to scroll to." "Can you please stop touching my screen." "Oh, sorry. But no scrolling. You can fit all of my stuff onto the screen."

the fold has evolved into a floating thing that pushes your page to a certain vertical gridpoint

if you have a lot of content that needs to go on the home page, the "fold" is an important area that should be taken into account. look at the nytimes, the major headlines are at the top.

The fold is very very real if the person with the money says it is real.

This is what you do.. go to your exec, discuss the fold til your blue in the face, and start crying. real men cry. girls do it all the time, to win over the hearts of people. your exec would be really proud of you in the end and probably let you have your way.

the fold does exist.
think about when you're viewing porn and you've got all these video thumbnails covering the page. I'm much more likely to click on a thumbnail if it's near the top, versus the thumbs that are on the bottom of the page.
it's not that the fold is an exact line... just put the important, good shit up top.
also, i'm so glad i quit design so that i don't have to deal with this kind of crap client after client.
- Oh no, you're one of those ex-designers. Like I'm a fucking pompous twat ex-smoker. Go on then, regale us of your wisdom to leave design. :Pmikotondria3

A few blog articles about how fold suddenly disappeared is enough for people to start to repeat it like a mantra.
The fold is very real, it still has to be taken under consideration in designs—even if not as much as it used to. Yes, people scroll. So what, they always did.

I always enjoyed this...
- People glance over, only scroll if they're compelled to, which is the job of 'above the fold' part.shaft

For many law firm marketing departments I work with, fear of the fold is alive and well. They get their directives from lawyers; the fold is probably the only aspect of web design they know of. The conversations I've been in...
