Whats the best and cheapest way to travel through the us?

Thinking a car/tents, since there will be a few ppl, also if u had 14 days what route would u pick, which cities ?

Also will be coming from europe so any recommendations where to land?

Cars/tents? Yikes, that wouldn't be fun through the desert and the country is so large that you wouldn't be able to find safe camping anywhere, that's for sure. It is cheaper though. All day driving takes about four days, but I'm sure you'd extend it.

I'd say definitely view the natural beauty, from the national parks that include Zion, Bryce Canyon and Grand Canyon all the way to Yosemite. Go to the mountains of Colorado, the Mojave desert, the beaches in southern California.

I usually just stay in super cheap motels at weird little towns..... some pretty interesting stuff there. Finding camping places would require a little more time I think... or just get a van and sleep in the van.
4 days would mean a ton of driving each day and not much seeing.... I could easily take 2 weeks to do this and see places.... zig zag at points to see different parks, cities, etc...

^thats 14 days in all not 4, and i guess tents are a dumb idea :)

How much for a night in an average motel?

    • under $100, I'd figure, much more in popular cities near watermonospaced

yeah, hotel rates vary all over. Sometimes like 35 (these are cheap and shitty, which can be fun) and sometimes like 125. If you plan a route and find campsites, you can do that though. Just requires more planning.

14 is good as you first said, I was saying 4 since mono mentioned it above.

I'm doing a bunch of west coast traveling right now. I really lucked out and got an RV for free that has 6 bunks built in the back. But, between all of us and subletting my apartment, it's cheaper than anything else even with gas included. We can live, sleep, and cook in here and stay warm because weather is rainy and wet up in the pacific northwest right now. Rentals can very but you might be able to find something cheaper or the same price as getting a motel every day. It's easy to find places with RV ceptic dumps and hook ups so when you're parked you're not using the on board water and power. I highly recommend doing it this way I will certainly be doing this again.

and tripping balls in the redwoods and having somewhere warm and dry to lose my mind was amazing. :D

    • being able to cook 3 proper square meals a day is saving a TON of money feeding 4 people btwshellie

^ additionally a lot of people with RVs don't use them around this time of year it's more of a summer/vacation thing. So if you post on and look/post on craigslist, someone might be able to do a rental for you for way cheaper than it is for you to do it through a dealership, because at least someone would be paying part of their payments when the RV would be sitting parked in storage somewhere. I've been looking into it but its kind of amazing how cheap RVs actually are. You can get a really really nice 2004 with levelers, shower, bath, new kitchen and everything for less than my SUV was when i bought it new (28k) which makes payments somewhere around 350 or less depending on how long they have it financed for (a lot of people finance RVs for longer than 5 years). Renting someones RV for a month its not being using it would actually be paying the payment and some down on the princible if they gave it to you for $500 (which would save you a TON on motels). You can add drivers to the insurance I think for little to no cost which is what my friend did for the time period I'm using his vehicle. You can tow your car behind it if you want. Most camping and RV hook up places range between $35-45 for RVs but you might also find some very nice friends along the way that will let you park on their street (which is what im doing right now in Seattle).
