Yeah, I got that email this morning. Doesn't seem like a smart move to me, changing the name of your wildly successful, game-changing business after over 10 years, but maybe that's why I'm not the CEO.

It looks like they want to kill the dvd by mail business so that it survives as a game rental service.

Them separating the financial books was just a matter of time.
It makes sense.

As stupid a move as their Web based Instant Queue updates from a while back. I bet that CEO believes every scripted word attributed to him in that email. Bunch of fluff crap.

the last two movies I saw at home came from Red Box and Crackle

Two different queues, "but your ratings will be the same at first" and then grow differently according to how you use the services, according to the CEO's comments on Facebook.
Terrible idea. Netflix isn't about the DVDs OR the streaming. It's about the movies.

Dear Customer,
I messed up. I owe you an explanation.
It is clear from the feedback over the past two months that many members felt we lacked respect and humility in the way we announced the separation of DVD and streaming and the price changes. That was certainly not our intent, and I offer my sincere apology. Let me explain what we are doing.

Thinking long term and ignoring the short term.

Fail Fail Fail.... especially since starz is leaving there ass too. Now there really won't be anything to watch.

I just happened to cancel my Netflix account a minute ago, and now I see this... I guess I was not the only one.
It was great at first, but when they jacked up the prices, you start to realize that their streaming service should be having more options, they make you wait to get something on DVD because it's not available for streaming.
It was good while it lasted...

Why dont they just call the streaming service netflix, then the dvd rental service homeflix? If they are insistent about changing the name, at least have something that makes more sense and is less confusing.
- That's a million dollar idea!mg33
- Because HomeFlix is a real Estate virtual tour company.ETM

- ermm - actually no, nevermindbulletfactory
- that'd be too smart, they don't get it...popfodders

who cares, companies do this all the time, what's the fucking difference. If Netflix were bought out, they'd be some arm of another company anyway. Pshhhhhhhhh....
- CygnusZero40
Not only is the name change stupid, but the netflix streaming is incomplete. If that is their main service they want to push now, well they might want to think about finishing it first. Dark Knight isnt even up there. So their main service doesnt even have the 2nd most successful movie ever made? Uhhh....

Brand poison.

They should've called it Coaster, cause that's what all DVDs will be used for.

the name... strange.... there are other businesses with names like that ....

The thing that's very dumb and inconvenient about this is that, I'm assuming disc and streaming queues will be managed separately now and have no connection between the two.
So, I guess we won't be able to go through the disc list online and simply watch the ones that are available streaming. Maintaining two separate lists will be idiotic at best, and total bullshit at worst.
