James KILLING IT with his signature 2x CDJ2000s, 1x DJM900, 1x iPad, 1x MacBook running Abelton Live (off to his left), 1x Korg NanoPad (black hand-held bar), 1x Korg KAOssilator (the yellow box off to his right), & 1x EFX1000. James was probably running the NanoPad, KAOssilator & iPad set up as control surfaces in Abelton Live on the MacBook.

Does anyone know if there are apps that you can import and use your own samples? I think i would get sick of the built in sounds very quickly
- i hear ya. i think you're options are limited to none. the DM1 would be a good one if it did.prophetone
- i think beatmaker support sample import...

Does anyone know if there are forums that you can visit and ask your own music questions? I think i would get sick of the designers answers very quickly

more details, what do you know already, are u using midi, etc
- big-papes0
I use mostly pro tools and an MPC, I am just starting to learn Maschine. Use a midi keyboard with pro tools.
- prophetone0
if you're already calling it a toy and you think you might be using a daw, then you're prob better off with a laptop, an mbox with pro tools, maschine and a small keyboard midi controller. or a similar setup. pack it all up in your herschel bag. go to the forest.
- well you answered while i was typing this, sounds like u r already set up.prophetone

I guess I was thinking it could be good to work on synth or sequencing stuff easily say on the subway or a plane. Just not sure if I would be able to use any of it for real. I think you can export high quality sound files?
- prophetone0
i haven't messed with midi on the ipad yet although i'm eyeballing the Line 6 Midi Mobilizer. most audio apps will export 16 bit 44.1 wav files.
like the korg ims-20 for instance...
http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/k…and the ielectribe...
http://itunes.apple.com/ca/app/k…i also just bought the DM1 but haven't really given it a proper spin yet.

the korg ims-20 is dope.. not sold on the electribe, but i didnt like them as hardware, so i dont know why i would as software..

I read somewhere its possible to hook up midi through the camera attachment usb. true?
- prophetone0
- ok, not exactly yes. the camera attachment requires a midi interface that's compatible, require zilch powerprophetone
- the line 6 unit appears to be the best optionprophetone

21 iPad Compatible MIDI Devices
While Apple has not hyped MIDI in iOS 4.2, class-compliant USB MIDI devices are expected to work, if they are low-power or self-powered, when connected to using the iPad Camera Connection Kit.

seems like right out of the box they are the ultimate sketching, building, and playing tool. and especially a good performance option. They can be a virtual table, fire serato and ableton...I have a friend who performs with one and it's pretty cool to see the freedom it gives him

this ones better, at the 1 min mark...
