I am getting a lot of new clients now and I need to be freelancing the work out.
When I meet a client, I normally get a very vague brief because i'm working on it (not great).
If I am using more freelancers, what would you expect in a solid brief?

if it's vague it needs being specific.
if the client is not specific, you have to be so. and make the client sign up your shit... unless you enjoy paying your freelancers 3x times more hours...

AND if you have plenty of work a little time to manage it (or specifically painful clients) get a good PM to pester clients and freelancers for your.
- get the job in
- make the bitch to sign on your contracts
- hire a PM
- let him/her hire a team and whip them regularly
- profit
- back to starting pointoh, don't forget setting one or two meetings with the clients (posh restaurant/cocktail bar preferred) to check that everything is going as accorded and their happy with everything. If they aren't you play that you utterly upset and you will take deep measures (?!) to correct that.

a great brief doesn't matter. great communication with your client is what makes a great project.

it seems as though you're going to have different briefs for different people. designer, owner, etc.. which i don't really care for, as it puts everyone on a different page. However, it makes sense for things to be design focused if you're trying to design something, however a good brief should carefully separate the difference between good and bad design.
