^ in SF i was going to buy an AK from this dude, (just to have one really, i had a nice collection of guns 15 years ago) well anyways, from this nerdy white guy, when I went in his room in his basement, he had
S A N D B A G S O N H I S W I N D O W S .
he had 2 m16's with converted barrels or some shit to be able to fire ak rounds, he said "it was in case the Russians took over and he ran out of rounds he could just use theirs" + all his guns had reinforced barrels so they would fire longer without melting, the dude had like 20 full crates of ammo, not boxes,,,, CRATES.

Again, you want a shotgun for home protection. If you were serious that you fear a multiple attacker home invasion scenario, or think you need protection form that level of threat a handgun ain't gonna cut it.
Shotgun. It's what the professionals use for that purpose. You don;t hunt deer with it no matter what you think.

If you're buying a gun for home protection then would it have to be close to hand at all times? Burglar Bill doesn't just make nighttime visits you know. Oh no. Which would mean that whenever you're at home you'd be worried about imminent home invasion (and not the cool kind
).How awful to live your home life in fear. Look at it statistically and you'll sleep much better.
Besides, it's Super-AIDS you need to worry about.
- tragic aint it?
enjoy your perfect life asshole.******** - oh wait i read that wrong.
thanks for trying to do whatever it is your trying to do.********

I spent the morning at the shooting range with my wife, son and father-in-law.
It was a day of firsts. The missus was breaking in her newest revolver, while my father-in-law was giving a first go-around to his new muzzle loader. My pre-teen was trying his hand for the first time using a pistol. All three (and me, too, of course) had a great time and performed admirably.
At no point were we worried about a home invasion or considering making a political statement. We neither murdered nor defended. We simply had a fantastic time.
I know gun ownership is a regional/cultural thing (I live in a rural part of the states where it is very acceptable), but outside of reasonable context, some of these comments sound ridiculous; borderline retarded.
For the record, the muzzle loader (though stupid slow to load) was the most fun to shoot today.
- In my opinion there are literally thousands of other means of having fun. Guns are made to kill. Not cool.********
- When I can start dictating which means of fun you're permitted to enjoy, you can start dictating what is cool.melq
- I can dictate my opinion on what is cool whenever the fuck I like.********

My dad in the past few years started a gun collection. Anyways, about a year or so he was at the range shooting his handguns and this dude came in, rented a gun, and then went to a booth and shot himself in the head. Gnar.
- You can hang yourself with a rope, or kill people with it. Should all rope be banned?CygnusZero4
- Actually, I'm not really anti-gun at all... shooting range story just reminded me of it.fresnobob

i doubt there is any point in explaining the correlation between gun ownership and gun violence to you, becuase, you know, guns are like super awesome fun for all the family.

- If I can't affect you with the acknowledgment that culture/region has heavy sway on perspective...melq
- then, again, no point.melq
- how is that even an argument? i went to school with people that say racist things, because of where i'm from.bumdrizzle
- does that make it ok?bumdrizzle
- it's just perspective.bumdrizzle
- Those two topics aren't related in even the slightest. I'll post below.melq

As a general rule, I don't chime in on online gun conversations, because people are generally impassioned one way or the other on the topic, mostly in the "how could you dare!?" camp.
My perspective is set soundly upon region/culture. Where I have lived for my entire life, guns are viewed through a much less provocative lens. Around here, you are expected to know how to accurately and safely operate a firearm. In the same sense that you are pretty much expected to know how to repair a small engine, or administer basic first aid, or catch and clean a fish, or 100 other simple, day-to-day tasks. I'm not saying it is better or worse than other places in the world, I'm just saying that it is that way.
It seems to me that there are plenty of attitudes in other places that are considered the norm, but that I would consider to be unsafe. I just chalk it up to part of the flavor of the world we live in.
Understand that incidences of gun violence are not prevalent where I live. We're not immune, by any stretch; but you'll hear of a handful of shootings a year, at best. I also have been personally touched by gun violence, so please don't assume I take the subject lightly.
I respect the opinion of those against firearms. It's not difficult for me to see where the arguments are coming from. It's just that the subject always seems one-sided and I wanted to chime in with a bit of perspective. If you read this and all you can get is "go guns! boom-kill-awesome!" then there's really nothing more I can say.

i like the fact the gun thread had to have an international dialogue on the definition of 'hard cunt'

I always find it interesting how guns are so cheap.
