I wish there was a notes or comments system for the Krop adverts. That way, we could give it to them every time someone uses, 'wizard', 'rock-star', 'guru' and 'ninja'.

I just wonder if it's worth paying them a visit... no experience with 'recruitment agencies' so far... I just hope they are not as bad as estate agents...
- clearThoughts0
will this post get deleted considering Krop probably supports QBN and the server that stores all our pointless conversations??

Probably, in 3...2...1...

The thing with headhunters/recruitment agencies is their staff are sales-driven. In other words, they get paid by employers for placing candidates.
The vast majority – without naming a well-known multi-national agency, for example – will try to place you in a job you don't want, no matter how much you tell them what you DO want.
Approaching employers directly after doing research is always the better option.
- yes, they do throw resumes at clients by the bucketload, and they own your ass when you sign up. OWN UR ASS.robotron3k

currently using them and a number of other agencies here in Chicago to bring work in (as I am freelance/business-owner) They've helped me a heck of a lot. I get paid about 1/2 of what I should be - but the connections are great to have and if you can balance their work with your own, you'll be in good shape.
- You can also work for the client. Then leave Creative Circles roster, in 6 months go back and work directly with the client.robotron3k
- i think the time period is a year actually :-( in Chicago atleast... if it's 6 months that sounds bettter :-)identity

Stay away from Creative Circle Jerks you don't need them. They are infamous in the industry and pay low wages. I heard a story where they were paying a CD $40 per hour then he found out they were charging $125 per hour for him. Boy was he pissed.
Use them at your own discretion, if you disobey them (work outside their knowlege with a client they rep'd you at) they will sic lawyers on you and the company you attempt to work for. On a side note their female recruiters tend to be ex-designers and are pretty cute.

I've seen their ads before. They pay REALLY low, as in less than what I was charging while I freelanced while I was in school ...and they ask for a bunch of experience and qualifications. But if I were in their position I'd do the same thing, gotta make loot you know. And it's their connections.
What you should do is look for other freelancers with similar skill sets as you, and find out what they're charging. Search the web. Search forums. Then go out and market yourself to ad agencies and network using LinkedIn. Work with them directly.
However, if you're just okaaaay at what you do, then use them. The good thing about going through a recruiter is that you don't have to deal with all of the BS that can come from accounts payable when it's time to get paid. Those recruiters are usually always going to pay you on time, even if it's coming out of their pocket. You're the one making them money (but they're finding the work for you of course).

"Boob Salad"
http://adscam.typepad.com/my_web…
This just in from my good mate of many years... Who shall be known as "E" for the rest of this post, 'cos she does want to continue to be one of the more successful freelancers in New York... Has been fucked over royally by a scam outfit (which I have posted about before) by the name of "Creative Circle." Not only do these wankers, who employ someone enjoying the nom de guerre "Boob Salad." 'Cos apparently she likes to flash her tits and demand a personal face-to-face interview with her lucky applicants to make sure they don't have a fucking turnip growing out of the top of their head, or something. I mean this is really fucking outrageous. But what's even worse than that, is that these wankers take a fifty percent cut out of the day rates of the people they happen to place somewhere!!! Why do I have the feeling that this is fucking illegal? Or, is it that head hunters have now jumped to the head of the queue as the world's oldest profession, finally overtaking prostitution!

Isn't there a suggested or an ethical mark-up rate established by AIGA. In my country the equivalent of AIGA sets it to max. %25 even tho no one obeys that. But if this company is well-known and doing this allegedly they should be flagged in the industry.
