Look, I get it, you guys don't like me and I don't like you.
Let's let bygons be bygons for a second because I have an important question here.
I feel computer processors are incredibly fast nowadays and a laptop is enough power to do HD editing and simple animation.
Who here would prefer a desktop over a laptop and why?
I can finish either way.

macbook pro can suffice but you'll wish you had a mac pro in the end.

I have a laptop (late 2009 suped up 17" MBP) but want to switch to a MacPro desktop. I have dual monitors attached to it but it just can't handle both monitors. It works okay but I can definitely tell it's slower than what t it should be, I really need a graphics card that meant to handle to. I work with just the laptop occasionally, screen real estate is just waaaay too small for me to be working on it full time, especially for animation where you have to nit pick every movement.
If you travel a lot (as in at least once a week), I'd say get a laptop. If not, get a desktop (iMac, MacPro, or nice PC)

27" iMac on steroids, a great investment!

- iMac is your workhorse and iPad is your portable solution...ideaist
- not for me, I can't always work in one place and you can't really do anything productive on an ipad.spot13
- Illustrator replacement -> http://www.indeeo.co…ideaist
- Finder replacement -> http://itunes.apple.…ideaist
- "you can't really do anything productive on an ipad." is a grave understatement spot13...ideaist
- So you mean you can't do anything, at all, on an iPad ideaist?detritus
- The opposite of this is what was intended detritus; excuse my language...ideaist
- I'm saying an iPad does much more than most give it credit for... You simply need to optimize the environment of it... ; )ideaist
- I've been considering going this routeduckseason
- whatever, you "can" do lots of "things" on an ipad, but it's not a productive work environment. It's a small, restrictive toy.spot13
- I got an ipad. I can't see myself using it for any real work.fyoucher1

I recently got a new mbp quad core. This is the first laptop I've ever owned and I love it. It's just as fast as my 1.5 year old macpro at work. I don't do video editing though but I'm sure the more expensive with a nicer video card would be more than enough.
I like waking up and checking email while in bed and working in random spots throughout the house. A lot of the time I plug in a keyboard and monitor and use it like that. Of course I travel a lot to so it's nice to have a mobile workstation. I was always a desktop guy until now.
