I have a laptop (late 2009 suped up 17" MBP) but want to switch to a MacPro desktop. I have dual monitors attached to it but it just can't handle both monitors. It works okay but I can definitely tell it's slower than what t it should be, I really need a graphics card that meant to handle to. I work with just the laptop occasionally, screen real estate is just waaaay too small for me to be working on it full time, especially for animation where you have to nit pick every movement.
If you travel a lot (as in at least once a week), I'd say get a laptop. If not, get a desktop (iMac, MacPro, or nice PC)
