I'll tell me kids,
I was there, right before the first designer uprising,
I even had a friend die after getting hit by a smart object, his last words "fuckn, rasterize, that, bitch"

Its pointless complaining. The only people who aren't really excited about crowdsourcing is you because its killing your career. Clients love it, wanabees love it, people who went to design college but then had to go and work at KwikPrint and have always wished life had worked out better... they love it.
The importance of good design is simply not as important as designers have always maintained it is. Anyone can design. Anyone at all. There's good and there's bad, sure, but that's subjective. Anyone can do it. Anyone.
Give it up. This is the future. Retrain or starve.

It's a fad
1. Lots of short term exposure due to the controversy
2. Long term brand erosion through lack of strategy led design
3. Mid and long term bottom line will suffer due to weakened brand recognition and
4. Companies will return to design with a vengeance, but for some it will be too late, as the chinese brands will have enhanced their brands in the meantime.Wishful thinking? i certainly hope not.

1. Tell everyone they're crowdsourcing for exposure/controversy.
2. The "winning" design was actually submitted by the agency they secretly hired.
3. Profit.

Life is too short to design things that don't matter.
Design to inform. Design to improve life. Design things that matter.
This is ketchup.
