I think I am over the "crushed blacks" look.
Everything coming out has the blacks crushed and I would like to see a shift towards flatness again in cinematography.
It's so 2000's...and we are in a new decade.
Time for a new look, maybe.
Thoughts?

the wrestler had a pretty raw 16mm kind of look... the grade was barely heavy.
sure you don't mean that bleach bypass look? Janusz Kaminski does this to a T... and pretty much any Tony Scott film from the last decade.

I love Kaminski's work... everything he does is brilliant.

I just checked out Kaminski's non-spielberg work...
He definitely works better with SS.

- yup jasonmoldero
- yes, it helps hide cgi stuff, its hard to match the color coming form the 3d, so you crush both blacks and call it done xDfeel

Robert Yeoman's work on The Life Aquatic is somewhat similar in tone to the above painting.

The other guys is a prime example of it just being a period-pieced out, cliched post-contemporary shtick.
