your probably right.

In reference to "crushed blacks" and "the other guys" there is plenty of detail in the movie itself, as i just put it in and am skipping through chapters. is your complaint really over the cover art?
- team_zissou0
no not the cover art, the film has a contemporary crushed-blacks look, although a bit less muddled than 'the wrestler'.
- it's a cool and crisp look.
but it's blacks are crushed.team_zissou
- it's a cool and crisp look.
- team_zissou0
yeah because thats an outdoor shot lol
- team_zissou0
the blacks are crushed in that shot but the contrast is down.
- i can totally see the black guy in the back ground. what are you talking about?pango
- registe0
i feel you have found a new term and are trying to use it, but to little effect.
the fact that the shot is in or outdoors has nothing to do with the decision to overexpose or underexpose the shot.
you can "crush blacks" whenever you like through exposure control. none of the shots indoors nor out lose the dark detail especially in shadows. I saw your b&w vid, mov4. it was contrasted to all hell.
that effect never occurs even the slightest in "the other guys" except maybe one hyper stylized scene in the bar, the time lapse walk through. but then again, it's dark in bars, not much shadow detail in real life either.
you're barking up the wrong tree here bud.

"i feel you have found a new term and are trying to use it, but to little effect."
Not new, in fact me and my cinematographer have been talking about it lately and it is why I posteed it here for conversation. I wanted to see what the QBN community is made of.
And dude, I just saw "The Other Guys" 1 hour ago ( funny film ) and I was specifically talking about the crushed black levels and showing it to some friends. The indoor scenes in the bar when Farrel is drinking are very "godfather-y" and maybe to contrasted for my tastes.
Barking up the wrong tree?
Just from the example you put up I don't think you fully realize what I am talking about. And Im not going to teach you anything, so just disagree and move on, please don't try to outsmart me or whatever your trying to debate here.

okay, sure, call it an argument, call it my opinion, but the term "crushed blacks" and the movie the others guys have nothing to do with one another. it's that simple.
- team_zissou0
no, it's not that simple.
You are lying to yourself.
I hate the internet, good lord.
- registe0
the only thing crushed in that movie was a chevelle, and not the '71 they were driving but a '72 stand in
- team_zissou0
cute.
- team_zissou0
How old are you? 10?
- team_zissou0
learn something trolls:
- inteliboy0
"crushed blacks" is a simple 101 grading term and used all over the shop to certain degrees...
you failed this thread to provide any good examples or discussions to be had.... hence the trolling.
- team_zissou0
Thats it, Im outta here. This place sucks.
- inteliboy0
righty' o.
it is possible to maybe, I don't know, prove us otherwise or make your opinions more clear?
