@soulfly - my kids (2,4) prefer the old mercer mayer, richard scary, and jan/stan berenstain books to newer ones. i dont know why, perhaps it's cause they know i like them more too - but it's been the observation of the wife and i that the books with digital illustration make the kids excited and they'll read them once or twice then never again - while the older ones with 'analog' illustrations are what they fall asleep looking over... not always the case, but mostly - in my house anyway.

I guess I need to leave a post to move this up and get some more responses. Still looking for "the one," folks. Though a couple of people above are in the running, as well as one or two who wrote me directly.

Thanks for all the responses. Some nice stuff here.
The "logic" for digital vs. analog has to do with seeking a human element that only the most talented can bring to the digital. While I realize many people mix the two, that's fine. A tool is a tool. But digital art is rife with cliches of slick keyboard shortcuts by people who can't draw a stick figure. I'm a painter as well as a designer. I want someone who can draw and think like a breathing artist, not a machine.
Excuse the rant. Bring on more samples.

so that you know... based on experience you will find out a whole gamut of skills, what you will find interesting is that many people have very narrow set of strengths, for instance the girl posted above is fabulous with poses but not so strong with over all composition and conceptualization of space, while the guys posted is fantastic with composition and conceptualization and character but doesn't have much to show for finish.
so depending what you are looking for one might be better than another - trust me if you don't see it in their work don't think you will be bale to bring it out.
- for the records both people i speak about are very talentedpr2

Hi folks, please keep them coming. I'm still reviewing books and had also put this out on Facebook and Twitter. While a lot of this is great work, not all is in the vein we're looking for. Think the characters from Schoolhouse Rock or some other animated kids show. Simple drawings with some singular and engaging element that speak well to children K-5 are what we're looking for. Thanks.

Just a question out of curiosity, whats the logic for choosing analog media when kids are used to digital media? The book will feel very outdated to them, especially for a complex subject.
Im not am illustrator any way, but worked in the toy industry for some years.
