If you are responsible for brand collateral like the logo of a fortune 500 company and you send me the following, just find a new line of work please:
Sending a version of the logo with editable text... with fonts that are not embedded or included. OUTLINE those bitches!
Objects not grouped. C'mon!
Sending RGB versions where they know it's for print... fine, I'll convert the colorspace.
Always saving it in the most recent Adobe CS version, instead of saving it down a couple versions. We don't always update every bloody release.
I remember the days when we had to save it back 4 or 5 versions as best practice (AI6 and AI8 for standards for a long time even after CS1 came out).

seems reasonable enough.

So you want a jpeg of our logo?
- Yes, please. And the more distorted and full of artefacts, the better.Continuity
- Just do it right and send me the GIF already.ETM

Its days like this I regret going to design school. Should've bought some "For Dummies" books and call it a day.
- Mr_Mxyzptlk0
Did they also send it along embedded in a word doc?
- That always tickles my brain cancerMr_Mxyzptlk
- seriously!monospaced
- prophetone0
why didn't you just have them fax the logo over? done and done.

Sorry for the rant, but I am not talking about getting things from clients who don't know any better, these are supposed to be trained designers.
- Trained how?—you mean on the toilet?Mr_Mxyzptlk
- Not sure any more. I would hope that far.ETM

times are different. attitudes and expectations have changed. software has enabled 'designers' to be lazy in many instances. i also remember saving down to illi8 eps to not only ensure there'd be no tech probs but as a simple courtesy. those simple values are lost now, forever, like tears in the rain... i blame rap music.
- duhsign0
its not that they don't have the knowledge it's they don't give 2 shits.
In every aspect of civilization from the top down, passing the buck, passing the blame, no accountability, no common sense. Look at the US. Controlled by corporations who don't pay taxes and outsource their labor then use the savings to build increasingly toxic products and put corrupt people in power to keep their game alive. Meanwhile the debt is so big theres no way out because even the elderly, poor, teachers, public workers and distraught people of our nation can't be stripped of enough money to make it back up.... Its a miracle our race hasn't died off already.

and your worried about f@cking color profiles...geesh...but I get your point, fing ameteurs : )

i like your rant. simple stuff to follow. although i must admit to not saving down to previous versions (i'm in cs4 now). I guess it's because i haven't had to. Printers usually keep up on software.
Good luck, i just sent you a smoke signal of a clients logo and wanted to know if you could outline and group it for me?
- I thought that was just weed smoke u were blowin cap!duhsign
- i'm only half a hippy, so i don't do the pot. at least not anymore. well, occasionally i'll inhale.capn_ron
- I am not a print shop...ETM
- I am doing work for them and this comes from their internal design/marketing dept.ETM
- misunderstanding, i didn't mean for you, i meant for me i haven't had to save down. i got your point though.capn_ron

I know EXACTLY what you mean bro.
We just completed an Annual Report where the logo arrived from another design agency as a low res jpg embedded in an ai file, with a white box over the old type, active unkerned type and loads of roughs outside the paste board! We had to clear it all up before we could use it, fucking lazy bastards.
- zarkonite0
do we work at the same shop? =)

Can someone tell me what it means to create a outline?
- Horp0
So they're amateurs because the have more up to date versions of Adobe Creative Suite than you?
- Trolling, are we?ETM
- Horp has a good argument. I agree with everything else in the original list, though.Josev
- There are plenty of us still on CS 3 and 4. Its always just good practice to save down a couple versions.ETM
- It always has been.ETM
- I see where your coming from but I don't think that's a reason to call someone an amateur. One could say that someone who doesn't have the latest tools is an amateur.Josev
- who doesn't have the latest tools is an amateur.Josev
- People who have the latest tools lack common sense.lukus_W2
- save downs upon requestdeathboy
- I'll save one version down, beyond that you just have to start downloading.CyBrainX
- Too say you need every latest Adobe release to be considered a pro is a true LOLETM
- It's common courtesy, save down. it's not difficult guys.ben_
