Huh, I ordered cappuccino's all times of the day for the 4+ months I was there, never a single problem or bad look (latte's too).
Maybe it was something else?

I have a friend from Czech Republic.. he finds lots of people's actions here similarily strange ... he doesn't feel insulted... more confused.....and he doesn't explode... he just wonders to himself and tells me occasionally.. he seems to treat these experiences like something to learn from, like when you're trying out a new videogame and nothing makes sense at first and there's no instructions....
He still can't believe what crap we eat here, and how fat we are when the fresh vegetables in the markets are cheaper here than europe...

I believe waiters in Italy don't need to work on tips - that mixed with a familial culture within a restaurant means they can do near anything to a customer and not get fired - couple that with the fact that they don't NEED your tip money + general american disdain over there (you were loud and obnoxious weren't you?) means that you're going to catch some shit.
Also - 2 italian waiters do not = Italy.

When I was a kid, my family lived in a VW van for a while driving around Europe to various physics labs...... my parents spoke dutch, and once we were at a restaurant in Italy... I was eating a TON of bread, as I was hungry, and the waiter gave my parents a very nervous look... He heard them speaking dutch and he knew Dutch too, so he started telling them that he'd seenAamericans freak out when the get the bill when somebody eats lots of bread, because the bread is not free, each slice is charged for, and he wanted to make sure we didn't freak out.... my parents talked to him for a long time.. it seems being a waiter in Italy isn't a bad job, not a great one, but it's not like some places where most waiters are wannabe actors,etc...

So I went to a McDonalds in Belgium the other day and ordered a hooker. When they told me to come back later I punched a guy, pissed over the counter into the fryer and then left smiling, knowing justice had been served.

I know a woman who's worked at starbucks and a bunch of coffee places, she told me once that some caffeine deprived addicts act really, really weird when they're about to get their fix... just like junkies of any form... but some have more self-control than others...

i love coffee.. i have about 6 cups a day to 18 cups a day.. i went to school in italy.. never in my life did i experience anything mentioned when ordering any coffee other than the best service.. oi i miss those tasty lattes.. the milk in italy is sooooooo rich.. mmmm wish i can order one now..i remember the first cup of coffee i had in Firenze was at this Chinese restaurant.. there was a cute waitress and she asked if i wanted to sit at the bar.. and i believe it was at mid afternoon.. and i got a latte.. it was by far one of the best i ever had in my life to this day.. i made it a daily pick up on my way home from school every afternoon.. mmmm so rich.. i want one!!!
