I was in Sicily, then Rome, and experienced this twice. I ordered one caffè macchiato, and a cappuccino in Rome.
I bought both at like 3pm in the afternoon. Well apparently, it's considered tasteless to order these after the morning, and I received poor looks from both baristas. The second one actually called me out on it, telling me there is a time and a place for every drink. I also apparently made the mistake of expecting change for the larger bill - and I was called out for not paying with coinage. By that point I was so bothered by this ridicule that I tossed the cappuccino across the bar and spit on the tiled floor on my way out, not attempting to hide my contempt for these people. Needless to say I am not impressed by Italians and will try to avoid giving my business to them.

What if you woke up at 1pm in the afternoon?
It would shift the parameters.
- there is siesta at 1pm, everything is closed. no shifting available.e-pill

What I was told by my dentist, that I should not go there while wearing my braces. I will be overcharged in every cafe/bar/restaurant. They see that as a kind of luxury so it means that someone can pay way much more.
Still, I would like to go to Italy some day.

So, you let one extremely weird experience bother you so much, that you are turning into a racist?

Aww, poor 'Murican. Turns out other countries and their culture frequently create things with intent and purpose, as opposed to another flavor with which to fill an oversized plastic cup.
- coffee drinks are strictly for mornings now? it has no other purpose than that?reinitialize

Yeh - fuck them, it's not a cultural meme worth respecting if it involves disrespecting your customer. It's not an American thing to expect nothing less than excellent service - it's a piece of piss, it's an act, it's a ritual as old as the hills and practised all around the world, if you can't do it don't open a fucking shop.
You tell me where it was, and I'll phonejack them until they go crazy.

Should bomb them I reckon...the cheek of them.

Cappuccino is breakfast. They don't serve breakfast menu in the afternoon in your country either.
Why didn't you ask what they suggest instead? You might learn something about a foreign culture.
Who am I talking to... you're a regular hiding under a shit-stirring troll account. Is that you Spooky?

They're just like the fucking French. I'm going to start calling my Italian Roast coffee "Freedom Roast", or maybe I should now call it Morning Roast, instead.

google image search "douchebags" results are 90% Italian:
