I DONT UNDERSTAND!
People doesnt like Harper, everywhere! But he still win in every surveys to win the election.... I dont get it at all.Its like when everyone was against W. Bush but re-elect him.
- Harper has alot of support, perhaps not amongst designers.********
- rednecks don't like surveysaldebaran
- i think its a lot of western canada and basically anyone who leans a bit to the right.lodef
- not rednecks either, lots of upper-middle class in cities.********
- Given the population distribution of Canada, it sure as heck is more than the west.ETM
- And I don't think BC is very Conservative.ETM

Nothing pisses me off more than listening to Harper say that his party will support and maintain public health care. It's no secret that they're eroding public health care every chance they can get.
- benfal990
Harper sounds like a robot. It's unreal. Everything he say and the way he move and all looks so fake.
- Al_dizzle0
Harper's forced and rehearsed soft spoken replies... Solid comedy right there.

It'll be interesting to see if there's any impact on the phone polls after this.
Layton nailed almost every point.
- ETM0
He did well, but NDP = taxes. And ironically, the strong CDN dollar is killing manufacturing and more corporate tax would be a nail in the coffin.
- spot130
Yup, although Layton was born for this stuff, his platform is not that appealing to most Canadian's. Ignatieff looked like a joke, Duceppe is a FUCKING RACIST and Harper looked relatively strong and at least stayed calm and collected.
- i_monk0
Harper didn't look strong, he looked like a robot.
Taxes pay for almost everything the government does. We can't say we want universal healthcare and then complain that it costs money. We can't argue for a militarized North and then complain when it comes time to pay. Better public schools, post-sec aid, etc etc etc. Taxes have to go up as the cost of providing these services go up. We don't bitch like this when companies do it, and *they* do it to increase profit margins on top of offsetting rising costs.
- I think there's enough money in the system, they need to clean it up.zarkonite
- Julesvm0
conservative minority on it's way.... none of the other three delivered nearly enough.

@i_monk "Taxes have to go up as the cost of providing these services go up"
..not true, taxes are a percentage %%%, so with inflation revenue goes up. Taxes do not need to increase, we already have some of the highest tax rates in the world!- The cost of services isn't anchored to the inflation rate or sales tax or income tax brackets!i_monk
- ETM0
Yes, our rates are amongst highest in the world... or instead I will demonstrate some facts with this chart:

"Ignatieff’s rebuke of Harper majority hailed as Liberal ‘turning point’"

zarkonite – Bullshit. The Inner Suburbs elected Rob Ford as mayor of Toronto on that promise and he's turned a surplus into a $750,000,000 shortfall for next year's budget. He claimed he could find "efficiencies" and "end the gravy train" and all our money problems would be solved. HA! Now there's speculation he'll be selling off public assets at fire sale prices to make up the difference.
spot/ETM – Looking at that chart, our personal income taxes are in the lower third of the countries listed. Corporate are high, but not the highest (Japan and the US).
- I know they are not that high, that is why I posted the chart.ETM
