Hey there. I'm wondering if anyone has a 27" monitor they would recommend. I've spent a lot of time in front of a Apple Cinema displays and I'm looking for something of similar quality, just hoping to save a couple hundred bucks.
Are there any hardware review sites designed specifically for creative professionals?
Thanks!

if it is what your livelihood is based off and you spend a majority of your time using it why question what you know and sacrifice quality over a couple hundred buck?

- fair point, just wondering if there are any other good options out there, in all likelihood I'll just spend the cash, I've learned the "you get what you pay for" lesson plenty of timesDesignTaylor
- he never said 'sacrificing quality', he said similar, which could mean better. or worse.Hombre_Lobo
- Why do you assume getting anything other than an Apple monitor is sacrificing anything.CyBrainX
- I have a Dell and it's as good as any Apple monitor I've ever used for 2/3 the price.CyBrainX

Cinemas have been the best that I've worked with. The UltraSharp Dells have been a pretty close second. Not to long ago I switched over to the Cinemas from a pair of Samsung 27" high-res craphouses. They were big and expensive and were complete crap. The viewing angles were really shallow the the blacks were way off. Less than 6 months in one of the monitors developed a brownish glow in the upper left hand corner that had nothing to do with my pet monkey and his shit throwing bad habits. Dell or LG would probably be your best bet if you're looking to save some $.
- yeh i have a 24" inch samsung, i love it, but its not design industry standard.Hombre_Lobo

I have a Dell U2711 that I think is great. Matte finish, 2560 x 1440. Tons of inputs if you're into that sort of thing. I found it on ebay new for under $700.
- +1 or NEC.ben_
- sorry, i didn't see the part about saving $, scratch NEC.ben_

IPS display, if you're looking for color accuracy, some cheaper monitors muddy up the dark colors lots....

You just won't go wrong with at least an IPS display. They have superior contrast and overall much better image. They are almost twice the price of non-iPS displays.. so you'll recognize them fairly easy by price.

I have a cheap DELL as palette/itunes/qbn monitor and next to my 27" Apple cinema display it looks like crap. Half as bright twice as pixelated. I can't believe I used to work on it before I got this nice monitor.

I'd recommend the latest range of Dell's. Samsung tend to be good but not up with Dell or Apple.
I use the U3011 at work and it is the nicest display I've seen.

I've heard Viewsonics are pretty good and similar to Cinemas when it comes to color. is this true? I'm looking for a new monitor also...

Apple monitors are about 150% more expensive than most of the competition. I have a 24" Dell from late 2007 and it's as good as any Apple monitor I've owned or used at jobs.

Some monitors from different brands have at least some of the same internal parts.... I've come to trust brands less and check if they're IPS at
http://www.pchardwarehelp.com/gu…Some dells are great, some suck, some Viewsonics are great, some suck, some HP...etc... almost all apple monitors are great but pricey

get the one with the BEST energy management.

Apple only makes one monitor now, the $999, 27 inch, glossy LED Cinema Display. It's a great screen for watching movies, but not so great for print design (if that's what you do). Not sure what to make of that, except I guess they're getting out of making monitors that aren't already part of a computer such as the iMac or Macbook.

- interesting... I've heard IPS panels are harder to source than they used to be...vaxorcist
- and the iPad has an IPS panel...vaxorcist
- Apple is designing for the masses.
We aren't the mass users, anymore:(alicetheblue

I so happy with my LaCie 324 ... more bucks ... but the colour is amazing and very soothing on the eyes.

- Just as over priced as Apple Effortpillhead

I have a Lacie 324, too. It's a good monitor but the Apple Cinema display is around the same price but has a larger display. I also have an NEC EA231wmi, which is a great monitor for the price ($300.00).
- The 27" NEC is over 1k, though. So the Apple display is a better deal.Josev
- no way jose!

- Apple is glossy - not good for eyes or calibration. IMOalicetheblue

I agree with Josev - the 23' NEC is a great monitor regardless of price - and it's cheap.
