original trilogy.
my daughter is 7, and my son is 4, and i'll be hitting em with this same thing in a few weeks (borrowing awesome projector from my office and will show it in the rec room downstairs....we did this a few weeks ago and all watched 'the jungle book' and they went nuts....they've seen that movie a million times, but projected so big with good sound etc, it was an all new experience..
so i'll blow their minds with Star Wars this coming weekend i think :)

Lucky for you a 5 year old uses imagination as a primary tool to enjoy movies like this. They don't really care too much about the realism of the effects or whether or not writing is bad, or character development is poor, etc. So, what you might consider important differences between the original trilogy and the new ones, a 5 yo most likely won't. The question still remains, which ones to go with. I'd say watch the one YOU were most in awe with at your earliest age, and see if the feeling is shared.

what a silly question!!!!
the ORIGINAL obviously! Then when he's 22 years old let him see the newer ones.

Pretend that the prequel doesn't even exist. Then, when he turns 18, shatter his world along with all of the other misconceptions he has about life.

guarenteed he'll prefer the newer ones, more chance of getting him into star wars that way, me thinks.

Shelter him from the prequel trilogy.

come on now. you know the answer to that.

start with the original

It depends if you want him to be a fan, or if you want him to hate it with a passion.

introduce his 6yr old son to star wars this weekend, does he start with the original? Or the prequel trilogy?
