The really amazing thing is the timing from product launch to upgrade.
They launched the first ipad 10 months ago, marking new territory. All of their rivals start working like crazy to match the original ipad, to compete with this new product. All of their efforts are pointed at the first of breed, new to the market iPad. The rivals begin to launch the competitors to the iPad 1.
Apple releases iPad 2. Not that big a difference, but enough of a difference that COMPLETELY overshadows the competition, who modeled their new product on iPad 1.
They own the market right off the bat, and as soon as there is any type of competition they release an upgrade.
Personally, I own an ipad [free from work] and do not use it that much.

I use my iPad just about every time I cook. Listen to music, watch a movie or read a recipe. Other than that, I read RSS feeds in the morning when I wake up, or play some crappy game with cartoony graphics to fall asleep.

You have it backward there were lots of tablets on the martket long before iPad. iPad just spent way more time and effort launching and marketing theirs. The rest of the products are sort of tagging along on ipad hype but they are far from modelling theirs on the ipad it self.

I held out on the first one as well. Now that I commute every day by train, I think I'd get more use out of it besides just playing around after work at home.
Plus, now it is thinner/lighter, which will be nice to carry around!

iPad 2, sold out everywhere. Thought I was safe going today, but nope, everywhere in town is out.
I pre-ordered shipment #2 at Best Buy.

I really want Xoom.. and not fanboy talking here.. I like the iPad 2.. but it just all got stale for me.. don't know.. Xoom/Honeycomb with the issues and problems right now (which I'm sure will be patched in the next week or two) just looks so much nicer and different.. You can do whatever on that thing, much closer to a laptop replacement.

I'd look at the Xoom too, but at $800 that's just crazy. I am getting the 16gb wifi version for $500.
It seems to be a broken record, but when the competition steps up and decides to beat Apple, I'll be there, but for so long they just keep putting out lesser products (and more expensive now).
Hopefully it'll all change once the market is saturated and prices come down, but for now its just simply not worth even considering.
