No hi-res screen upgrade on the 13"?
The Air still offers the highest resolution at this size.

I was a little worried my 8 month old mbp would look ancient with this new update. No worries though it seems, apart from realising I'm showing symptoms of a shallow trend whore. Win some, lose some.

"why do mac user get excited every time a new mac comes out,
can someone explain to me what is the excitation factor ?
new mouse pad? 2gb of ram? etc.."Why do all the guys that complain about macs happen to have crappy portfolios?

Steve Jobs is a genius. Ive had 2 macbooks, had technical problems with both of them, really weird shit like cd drive not accepting CD's anymore, programs crashing constantly, A key not working on one of them, need to download special apps to run basic files Windows can run natively, yet somehow people look at these things as more than computers.
It's amazing to me, I have a ton of respect for him and what he's built at Apple. Ive got a 10 year old Dell that runs better than both of my newer macbooks, and it's sure as shit more flexible in terms of files and apps, yep people just dont look at them in the same way.
- Seems like the yuppie crowd is really helping push them along. And Starbucks as well.CygnusZero4

- very true post.
apple marketing is incredible, any company dreams of that level of marketing.Hombre_Lobo - vie got 3 old Mac laptops that still work, the oldest being a power 160 from the 90's. I've never had a pc last more than 2 years. Dell, hp, 3 machines all died.antagonista
- i have the opposite situation, all my PCs have crapped out, and my macs are all running like champs.spifflink

^^^ Simple fact that every computer is different and technology in general especially computers will never be 100% reliable. So you say you have a dell that runs perfect? I've had my First Gen MacBook pro (early 2006) that i got the day it was released and not once have I ever had a problem with it. Blazes through everything with no problem. I'll run ID AI and PS while Playing Itunes and the machine never bogs or hangs up. On the other hand I have a 2008 HP Core 2 duo Laptop that is a POS. Mind you better Processor. Sound no longer works. camera no longer works, HDD replaced twice. Been re-formated several times and still runs like shit. Now I'm not trying to be a prick here but you all do realized that the internal components of most machines are virtually all the same. It's the manner in which they are assembled. So personally I find Mac's a lot nicer and more solid then a Dell or HP (not talking reliability or mechanics. Again every Computer is different. So PC and MAC fan boys should just shut up period. IMO I prefer mac becasue they are easier to use and like I said their build quality I believe is better. Plus you cant tell me Windows is more superior to Mac OS becasue it just isn't. I've worked IT for 5 years before becoming a graphic artist and I can tell you Mac OS is far more reliable than Windows. installation is easier, no drivers needed, virus software not a necessity, blue screens or system crashes almost never, software incompatibility not once have I ever experienced it and I use a lot of different software. In conclusion to each their own use what works for you and everyone just stop complaining. This is like Android and iOS people complaining - who cares use what works for you.
- I apologize now for my rant and numerous misspellings.BozMan

Regarding the benchmark graphic above:
PrimateLabs has compiled GeekBench results for the new Sandy Bridge MacBook Pros released just yesterday, and the results are impressive. The results show GeekBench results ranging from 5900 to 10164 across all models. What makes this particularly impressive is that the new low-end 13" MacBook Pro (2.3GHz Dual i5) scores near last year's top-end 15"/17" MacBook Pro (2.8GHz Dual i7).
Browsing through the complete list of benchmarks shows the new MacBook Pros in context with the other Macs. The top-of-the-line MacBook Pro now outrank many of last year's desktop machines including the Mac Pro and iMac. PrimateLabs concludes:The performance of the new MacBook Pros is amazing. The slowest MacBook Pro performs on par with the fastest previous-generation MacBook Pro, and the fastest MacBook Pro is 80% faster than the fastest previous-generation MacBook Pro.
In fact, if you look at our Mac Benchmark charts, you'll see that the fastest MacBook Pro is faster than a lot of Mac Pros (including the current generation of Mac Pros). The new MacBook Pros truly are portable workstations.
As always, benchmarks are an artificial gauge of performance, but can be useful in head to head comparisons. These numbers also primarily reflect CPU/Memory performance and don't take into account differences in graphics hardware.

Remember it is intels incredible performance gains with their new sandy bridge chips that are impressive. Apple just put it in a laptop.
The way you were talking made me wonder if you thought it was apples genius that had created the performance gains.
- Hombre_Lobo0
i was gonna say that image above is rather redundant, as the entire hardware community has known since January that sandy bridge is around 10-25% faster than the previous generation. But then i suppose that image is very useful to apple fans comparing different versions, weather to upgrade etc.
sandy bridge is excellent. best of all is its overclocking ability, which wont be of use to any laptop fans due to overheating issues.

the 2.0 i7 mbp is just as fast as my 2.93 ghz quad from 2009. impressive!
going to save my money and purchase one late spring/summer. maybe refurbs will be in the store by then
- the i7 are 2ghz? not 3.4?
are they underclocked?Hombre_Lobo - low end is 2.0, high is 2.2 and 2.3. turbo brings the speed up to around 3-3.4+ when neededgenfour
- I don't know much but that seems to be the case to conserve powergenfour

thunderbolt! thunderbolt! thunderbolt!

- Hombre_Lobo0
i cant really see the use for thunderbolt in any other setting than high end video editing, a very niche market.
particularly when a firewire drive is sufficient enough for storing full HD and editing it on a connected machine.
- maybe im missing something. enlighten me buddies!Hombre_Lobo
