'The Dark Knight Rises' Faces Big Problem: Audiences Can't Understand Villain
Sources say some at Warner Bros. want Christopher Nolan to change the sound mix in response to complaints that Bane's dialogue is hard to hear. But the filmmaker plans only to alter the sound slightly.

watching in a small piece it is hard to hear every syllable , but i think when we see it for the entire hour[s] we will get used to its sound and understand it better..
batman's voice is somewhat hard to hear at times.. and everyone got used to that..
- I couldn't agree more. Don't change it, it's unique.********

don't care for german, polish market, they dub the shit out of it; haha

I dont think the issue is as much the muzzle that he's wearing, but more the accent he is using. Some lines in the prologue he delivers very quickly, with a thick accent, so I think thats the issue.
Well how could they make that any clearer without redoing the dialogue? I think thats why Nolan said he isnt going to do too much, plus he said its ok to not understand everything, which I guess is true.
- i dont think there is an issue at allCALLES
- Well not for you, but a lot of people are complaining about it.CygnusZero4
- I dig it myself.********
- i like it too, and also when you hear it in a theater w/ full surround sound it will be great!!e-pill
- shit for that they should've changed everyones voice in braveheartCALLES
- CygnusZero40
That one line where he says, "They expect one of us in the wreckage brother", noone here was able to figure out what he said there until someone posted a transcript of it. So for the average movie goer, this is a serious problem.
The Joker was always very clear, but here he is muzzled, and talking with a thick accent. If they cant clear it up a little you know when this comes out tons of people will be bitching about it.
- I think his accent builds the depth of his character. If that makes sense?********
- It does, its just a little thick for many US viewers to pick up on first time watching it.CygnusZero4

I think I can probably deal with the muffled voice. What will drive me nuts is everyone bitching about it like its the only part of the movie that matters. (This discussion excluded).
I really don't get the logic on Nolans behalf though. What does the muffled mask ADD to the movie? Unless props just couldn't figure out how to make it look the way he envisioned, and not interfere with his voice at the same time.
I got so sick of people complaining about Bale's batman voice - but I dug it, and thought it made sense.

Bane's dialogue could easily have been re-recorded after the fact if there were issues with the mask. In fact that is done all the time.
It would be easy given that lip syncing issues are almost non-existent with the mas obscuring his mouth. Obviously this is by design, like it or not. The physical mask itself as a prop is not the issue.
- CygnusZero40
@jtp, that isnt just a mask that he's wearing to look cool, it's pumping in a gas that he's breathing.
- e-pill0
to my knowledge there wasnt anything as of yet thats says VENOM is a gas, nor that its being pumped thru it, even though in the books the venom [liquid] is pumped directly into his brain.. Nolan has yet to show us anything of that nature..
also never was it mentioned anywhere that he is breathing the VENOM..
@cy.. please share your source for that above post.. thanks!!
- e-pill0
awesome .. i been trying to find a way to see if they would releaase any info regarding the VENOM.. also bruce wayne in the comics becomes addicted to it as well..
thaanks for posting that.. as a true comic book nerd.. i am TRULLY THANKFUL!~!!
:)
- CygnusZero40
It's been known for a while now that gas is being pumped through that mask, and it's for a horrific injury Bane has, which is tied to that huge scar at the back of his neck.

They arent using Venom in this movie at all. The entire concept of some drug giving anyone superhuman strength does not fit with what Nolan is trying to do. I knew all along he would never use that in this movie.
He's changed many things in these movies from the comics to make them fit in with what he's trying to do.
- Jesus someone beat me to it already. Anyway, it's not Venom, Venom will not be in this movie.CygnusZero4
- Venom in the sense that it doesnt actually make him stronger. They changed it from the comics.CygnusZero4
- until like 5 minutes ago i never knew this and we been talking about it since day 1..e-pill
- you been holding back info yoe-pill
- Someone posted this paged back I believe. Anyway the info has been out for a while.CygnusZero4
- *pagesCygnusZero4
- the last 3 pages have been about trailers and prologues.. anything else is lost amongst ite-pill
- I posted it on page 15.CygnusZero4

I'm all about this alteration to Bane's back story - it's certainly in line with what Nolan did with Scarecrow and Joker.
- Yep its exactly what I expected. Dump anything not realistic about him like Venom and just use the basic character.CygnusZero4
- CygnusZero40
^ Yep exactly. If anyone thought they would actually have a drug that would make him super strong or bigger, they obviously have no idea what he's trying to do with these movies. Nolan has said many times he's not a comic book fan, so it's clear he's just taking basic concepts from the comics, and twisting them to make them realistic. Anything supernatural is not used or is drastically changed.
- e-pill0
as i have mentioned a few i can care less who is the director or their view.. im just looking at the movie and how its showcasing my nerd love on screen..
you guys may have known things that you werent sharing i think that you thought we all know..
all this not having any connection to the VENOM drug is completely new news to me..
so i thank you for posting it..
also using scarecrow is a bad example because he uses a drug inducing chemical to instill fear and paranoia thru psychosis in anyone.. you should have used Raj and just mentioned the League of Shadows.. or is the Lazurus pit not supernatural enough to be considered that it is indeed supernatural??
- CygnusZero40
Ah, apparently I posted the info about the gas mask on page 15, lol
- i dog ear everything.. all i see is 1 page at for any thread.. what is this pg 15 you speak of??e-pill
- Know that little page numbers at the bottom? Click 15. I posted it there a while back.CygnusZero4
- Not my fault you missed it champ, but it was posted, and it is old news.CygnusZero4
- Maybe you should rethink your qbn tactics. They arent working a you missed a critical piece of info. Your fault.CygnusZero4
- I believe this is where i first learned it too. I come to this thread for all my DKR news.jtb26
- I get it all from facebook, from batman on film and batman news. Those guys are on top of it.CygnusZero4
- CygnusZero40
No way in hell is the Lazarus Pit in this movie. That is so ridiculously far away from what Nolan would ever do. It's literally like on the opposite end of the spectrum.
That's why I keep saying these arent comic book movies. I dont care who says what about them, they are not trying to make comic book movies here. That should be fairly clear by now. They wont use a single thing from the comics that even touches on anything supernatural.
They are superhero movies, that borrow some ideas from the comics, but arent trying to be faithful to the comics at all, unlike most other comic book movies.
- the lazurus pit was in picture stills all over the comic sites so please what are you saying??e-pill
- What makes you think you know what that was?CygnusZero4
- CygnusZero40
The closest comics these movies come to is the Jeph Loeb stuff, and really only names and basic ideas were borrowed from them.
- i m dog earing this post.. i really dont waant to read your posts disclaiming this not to be comice-pill
