in the comic, it was never bane's intention to kill batman, he wants batman to suffer.. so he breaks his spine instead.. he wants batman to know that it was him and that he planned it all out that he isnt some brute.. he wants bruce wayne to feel it. he wants to take it all away from him.. his family.. his butler.. his home.. in the books bane destroys it all.. poor alfred.. i feel for him more than i do bruce wayne.. in the books.. another takes on the cape.. in batman's leave.. and that is Azrael.. someone who kills without regret.. Azrael also defeats Bane.. and thus bruce wayne eventually makes a return and takes down Azrael.. and reclaims his place as Gotham's Dark Knight..
i really dont know how Nolan will spin that story in this last movie..

- Bane shows up in Gotham
- Batman returns, only to get crushed by Bane
- Batman's broken body gets mended with the help of technological genius Lucius Fox (I'm thinking semi-robotic armour here), he gets reinforcements in the likes of Selina Kyle (gives her the training and the technology to become catwoman) and John Blake.
- Batman and allies destroy Bane
- Batman, again heavily injured is unable to be the dark knight ever again but he takes on a kind of mentor role in training a small army of successors (mirroring the league of shadows)

^That probably wont be officially released in HD online, not from Warner anyway. They didnt release the TDK prologue either online, although it was on a bluray, possibly in the extra features of Batman Begins I think? That was the only way to get a good copy of it outside of seeing it in IMAX.
