I like my Canon T2i..
the only issue with that camera is the focus is so loud that unless you attach an external mic, it sounds like a robot and you can't hear anything over it.
That's why the guy in that video above is having music overlapping the video as well...that's one issue with that camera I have found..
but overall quality is pretty great...I'm no pro though... but I love it.

a lot of the photographers lately seem to be using 5d's for video and still. the video seems ot be all about the steadicams.
hague makes soem on the cheap but havent used so not to sure. I have a t2i for personal use and been thinking about getting one for jsut run and gun fun stuff

I would highly recommend watching Zacuto's Great Camera Shootout - not necessarily as a buying guide, but just to see how well dSLRs perform compared to a cinematic camera.

once again, this is mostly designer forum so you will get the kind of responses as above... "5D is great, just keep on using it!"
Truth is there is no perfect camera. You don't mention what kind of doc work you are doing and what kind of shortcoming you are running into when shooting. Answer that and i'll be able to help you (cause i shoot for a living, unlike most of the responders here...).
- You do good work too, filmographer.jamesomega
- pr2 you come across as a real dick sometimes.inteliboy

I shoot with a t2i and something very similar to this:
The problem you're going to run into with shooting with a dSLR is the FAT32 formatting of the SD cards will only allow you to write 4GB files at a time (about 12 minutes). Your next option is either dealing with a built in HDD camera that uses the shitty AVCHD codec. Next down from that is HDV Tape cameras like the Canon HV40. Honestly, think about the long term applications of your purchase - are you only doing documentary style stuff? do any of your clips have to be longer than 12 minutes (i.e. are you okay with stopping/starting)?

my panasonic hd vid cam will record for 6 continuous hours, my 5d gets all hot and buggy after 12 minutes of recording, a 5d is not a camcorder it is a DSLR that happens to take video, beautifully at that, but in short bursts, it's not meant to be used as a long length recording option.

i dont why you need another cam when you have a 5D though...

Look no further than -
(placed in order of video performance)
If you get a Hackable GH1, you can get it to film video footage at 85mbps, which is much better than a Canon 7D and some twice as good.
hackable GH1 serial range -
http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showth…The GH1 also has crazy amounts of old lenses available that are still sharp, it can use any four third lens vid an adapter. for real life terms i got a 50mm olympus zuiko manual focus 50mm for £20, adapter was £25, and another lens olympus zuiko 135mm for £35.
Bargain lenses.
- That GH1 shouldn't even be an option.jamesomega

Been seeing tons of people using DSLR's instead of HD camcorders lately. Please don't fall victim to using depth of field tricks in every shot. It induces headaches.

You might be thinking about that one:
Panasonic HDC-TM700.

the 5D is easily the highest quality video you can get, so why not just invest in some sort of hand held rig for it?
This guy made one frankenstein-style.. looks decent
http://www.canon5dtips.com/2009/…- not the highest quality at all.
GH1 / GH2 is much higher.
the TM700 is comparable too.Hombre_Lobo
- not the highest quality at all.

I mean around £600-700 pounds...
- You have a 5D, what else do you need?! The Panasonics are maybe 30% smaller, if thatrosskemp

what do you mean by midrange? semi professional cam? those run around $3.5k

Any recommendations for a mid-range HD camera?? Thinking more around £600...
I have a 5D that does video, but need something more hand-help style for some documentary style film.
I know a while ago some Panasonic mid-range options were getting rave reviews...
