Hey guys,
I'm getting a tattoo this weekend, got the quote and font I like, but I wanted people here to look at it for leading and kerning. Being an interaction designer, I don't deal a lot in type (or haven't for about 10 years), so I wanted to ask people here for any things they might change with spacing. Already did some stuff... but anything else?(position = chest on the left side)

i like the romeo & juliet quote

I am getting this tattooed this weekend.
Europeans like my work.
Americans call it swiss design.
It stays! What font should I get, and is this copyrighted?

wtf, I'm not jteore! don't put me in that category!!
... but I guess the tattoo will stay :P

- haha, no. could never compete w natas nor would never bite. if anything i was too worried it was too close to the chocolate logo. it.s just the way i write curisive.instrmntl
- its just he way i write cursive. and the quicksilver is the way natas does. to me they look really completely different.instrmntl
- bt chocolate is chuky, natas's is water color brush ish and mine is just cursive/tagging.instrmntl
- bt its all cursive, so i guess it all looks the same. i did this in 04. i dont think the quicksilver thing was made then, was it?instrmntl
- Natas did this? I didn't know that.HijoDMaite
- Evan Hecox did the Chocolate script********

@instrmntl - so originally I got a caligrapher to do the tattoo. Did iterations, and loved the original. It was amazing and so unique. The problem was it the text was too tight. The tattoo guy said I'd maybe get 2 good years before it really ran together :\ Looking through her other type, it all suffered the same... and I'd imagine what you wrote above would run together after a few years too :(
I was crushed.Here is a sample of the person I had originallyhttp://www.glamour.com…...

so I tried, but had to fall back to something more spaced out... I like the font I have above... good match of font + sciprt style.

perhaps in the future when I want a shorter phrase I can do large (like across my back), then I'll go back to calligraphy

can you explain why you're wanting this particular quote across your chest? you don't have to, just curious.
- its over his heart i'm guessing.instrmntl
- is heart on the left side? I thought it was mostly in the middle :Pjfletcher
- mostly in the middle, slightly weighted leftmonospaced

@formula - sure. and not *across the chest, on one side... I originally thought that, but felt a bit too hipster for me :)
I'm not pulling it from the context of R&J, but I like the idea that I have to keep moving to live, keep having new experineces, and generally always learn... as opposed to being stagnent, staying in one place, and missing out on life.I thought the quote illustrated that well for me.

the other thing I was thinking about was "your effort to remain what you are is what limits you"... that might be next in a few years.

I totally dig it, but to me that script seems a little more old western/old susana style. That's not a bad thing at all. If anything, it has a Billy The Kid look to it which I think is rad. Again, its just my interpretation.

Lovely, be happy with your decision and love your life man!

See if your family has alternates to connect some of the letters. The O and N in "gone" look awkward, as does most of the kerning, not natural, looks like a font. It's meant to be a script so I think you should try to connect some/most of the letters, give it a more natural feel.
I don't know, I've always been weird about fonts that are meant to look handwritten. If i use them (rarely) I'll create outlines and tweak them until they look handwritten. Easier to print it out, trace it, scan it in, export paths to Illy, and tweak away.
It's worth the effort because a) as a designer you should just care and b) it's gonna be on your skin for life.

P22 has some decent handwritten fonts to start with. I've used Cezanne and Declaration a few times. Useful do to the multiple Alternates and Swashes they offer.

It's quality; not quantity. I do love historical remembrance. I'm perplexed by this. Many of my friends say, "get a tattoo that means something to you...". Yet, does it have to be something that means something to "you", or should it means something that "means" something...?

@formula;
its from Memento and it says "find him and kill him" (sammy jenkins that is).
