Note that there's a new breed of IPS panel showing up in cheaper monitors that is really a 6-bit panel with some rapidly flickering dither pattern to approximate the 8-bit colour range. From what I can gather, it's not the same colour fidelity as a proper 8bit panel
note also that 'wide gamut' monitors look great at bestbuy with some leaves and water droplets on them, but are problematic for colour fidelity in a professional setting.
We've got a punch of these in the studio and they've been totally solid:

How many of you have gone from a setup with a smaller 21 or 22 inch monitor, and your laptop screen open, to a setup with only a 27 inch monitor and the laptop closed? That's my biggest thing to determine for myself.
I have a 22" and my 15" MBP and have used this at home for several years. At work I now have a 22" Dell and a 24" Dell, which is nice.
At home I like the MBP open for Spotify screen, or Logic mixer, or work files I need to look at side by side. Anyone else have the same process but happily move up to only a 27"?
- at work I have the 15" open and the 27" above it, Windows and OS X side-by-sidemonospaced

27" Apple Cinema Display and no hardware calibrator initially, or,
27" Dell Ultrasharp and a hardware calibrator? That is the question.
- The Apple's still need immediate calibration. Too warm in tone.ETM

- Recent Dell Ultrasharp's have been crappy. Do your research on the particular model first.ETM

I wouldn't buy ACD now until they upgrade USB to 3.0

OK, so just bumping this to say that working on the 27" display only has been AWESOME. It still seems abnormally huge to me. Not used it much except for Sunday and tonight, but working on a friend's site and there's plenty of room for everything I need open on one screen.
My favorite thing though is that because it's so huge, it forces me to sit back and actually lean against the back of my chair. I'm a notorious hunch over the desk person, and used to do it all the time because of the previous setup.
Have to say though, this thing is really bright. Realized I've been using it all night turned down three levels. I'd probably only go full blast when editing photos.
- I find this app useful for quick organizing of the screen in halves, with a keyboard shortcut https://itunes.apple…raf
- Really? Nothing built-in like Win 7 where you just drag the window to the edge and it snaps at 50% width?ETM

nice mg33. I'm over the dual monitor thing. taking advantage of mission control I can comfortably use one now. In fact I've just been using my 15" mbp screen.
is that an old dell 20.1 you used to have? I had one that I loved but left it with my ex gf when I moved out. Kind of regret it. oh well.
- Old one is a Dell 2007WFP. 22" I think. They were pretty prized at the time if you got the IPS panel.mg33
- I had 2 2007WFP, they were awesome. The model that followed it directly had a TN panel.raf
- Yep. UltraSharp line can be sketchy. Really research the model you look at.ETM
- Some panels in them are gold, some are trash.ETM

Just got Dell's 30in. LOVE LOVE LOVE it!!
Finally calibrated it too. Amazing how off my old monitor was! Ha.
I am replaing a 24" Dell that has performed well for over 8 years. Got my money's worth, I think.
