How do these agencies work such as Hugo and Marie or Frank Sturges?
What type of cut do these agencies take from your pay? Are they good at supplying steady work? Can you approach them to represent you or do they scout their own talent?
Is anyone here working under an artist management agency and can you lay out the specifics of this arrangement works?

Meok thanks for chiming in. Can you elaborate a little more about the process? Did you seek them or did they seek you?

Didn't you already ask this?
http://www.qbn.com/topics/647925…
"We work closely with a select group of individuals who each work toward a wide variety of creative endeavors."
- Yep I sure did and I am asking again. Do you have a problem?herzo
- herzo0
ethanfink do you have a malfunction?
I asked and I am asking again since some cunt derailed my thread.
I wasn't asking only about the agencies I listed those were used as examples so you posting something off their site is pretty worthless. I was looking for first hand accounts from people here who are experienced.
If you have nothing to contribute go find something else better to do. Sick of you ego maniac dickwads on this site.

I'm represented in the midwest and west coast territories by two different rep agencies. I met my midwest rep though business. They dropped the agency I used to work with when I left, and came with me.
My midwest rep introduced me to my west coast rep agency. It happened naturally. I'm not sure they would have responded if I had done the approaching, but it's worth a shot if you have a really strong portfolio with tried and proven infrastructure and bandwidth.

Shellie I appreciate your feedback.

what do you mean by "with tried and proven infrastructure and bandwidth."?

I was stating a fact... with no bias attached. I did not say "hey idiot why are you posting this again" or anything to that matter.
It looks like your the dick-wad getting all bent out of shape about my innocent comment.
I know the guy who mad H&M's site, I could be more help than its worth unfortunately now you won't get a dime of information from me.
- I gives not a fuck about your help Ethan. You aren't the sole owner of any knowledge.herzo

Ethan fall on a knife and die dude. If you had any real info to give you wouldn't have come in here being a dick. Any information you have there are 100 other people who have too. So fuck off. Nobody is going to kiss her ass or lose sleep over that shit.

Happy New Year to you too!

Funny thread all.
I have never been represented but no several people that have. The thing to understand is to get real representation that works, you have to already have people reaching out to you. Basically an artist more than a good designer. I have never heard of a good rep doing it for less than 25% but again, I just run a small company and am not repped. Several artists I know hate the idea of representation..others I know love it because it is free work that is marked up for the ad world.
In general, I would wait to be asked more than selling your self in the situation. You need to be wanted to be valuable for them. Once signed, the agency should handle all contracts and negotiations for you so that you are just left to do what you do.
Just my thoughts...
and QBN..can everybody just try to be nicer next year...geez.

Agents/reps are not all they are cracked up to be.

Sorry but it gets real old fast when you are trying to get info and people come in the post solely for the purpose of being ass. Its like grow up.

Just like 'onekid' I have a few friends that have rep and love it and others that have turned it down and want nothing to do with it. Most of them are either photographers or illustrators no designers. But I'm very interested in this - I think it would be great to be able to know you have an extra source for work to come in through around your other work you obtain on your own.

"Most of them are either photographers or illustrators no designers."
I have been noticing in my research its mostly illustrators too. I have been thinking about doing more illo as my side gig rather than 'pure' design anyway.

That is exactly it.
- directors as well. Interactive is a real specialty and it's rare. My reps mostly rep directors and I'm the only interactive on the roster for both basically.shellie
