I'm represented in the midwest and west coast territories by two different rep agencies. I met my midwest rep though business. They dropped the agency I used to work with when I left, and came with me.
My midwest rep introduced me to my west coast rep agency. It happened naturally. I'm not sure they would have responded if I had done the approaching, but it's worth a shot if you have a really strong portfolio with tried and proven infrastructure and bandwidth.
