i.e. the original has lots of Red, so you go to the red curve and take that down, by matching the value to the red value of the "white" image, which is probably very low. The White images has some BLUE, so you would increase the blue curve a little on the original image.
If you take a few readings of the RGB values, you get an exact match, a little brightness/ desaturation will finish the job.

You have to sample the RGB or CMYK samples of the target color and then adjust the RGB levels using the curves.
Actually it is a pretty easy job, if you have a little practice, it's done all the time. Make sure to make a selection of each area.

this does not seem that difficult of a retouching job. I imagine you could accomplish with with some level & saturation adjustments as well as dodge and burn tools.
The real problem lies - as others have said - with the quality of the first photo. The exposure is high which is allowing the direct lighting to wash out most detail and shadows, causing her face to look very 'flat'.

You should really attend the Kelby Photoshop seminars if you want to do this kind of thing.

The easiest way would probably be to go over her skin with the Sponge tool set to desaturate, use a large brush-size and small flow setting. You can remove shadows (or add highlights) in her face with the Dodge tool, or add shadows (or remove highlights) with the Burn tool.
